I recently purchased a pacifier clip online for my little bun in the oven and realized that I could totally make them instead of buying them and save a ton of cash. Once you see how easy these are to make, you will want to make several for your own babe and some to stash back for baby shower gifts. Best of all, this tutorial is for ANY size pacifier. Yes, even those Soothie pacis with the tiny hole.
Here’s what you’ll need:
4″X13″ scrap of fabric
1/2″X12″ piece of interfacing (could also use felt if you don’t have interfacing on hand)
mitten clip (you can purchase a package of these at the store)
4″ of elastic
Let’s get started!
First you’ll start off by ironing down 1/4″ on each of the short sides. Then fold in half and iron again so it creates a crease line that goes through the center of your fabric.
Fold in your long sides to the crease line and iron again.
Now, fold in half again. Your fabric should be only about 1″X12.5″ now.
Tuck your piece of interfacing into the fabric so that it’s sandwiched in there.
Grab your piece of 4″ elastic and fold where the two ends touch.
Pin your elastic into one of your short sides.
Sew the three open sides of your fabric, starting with the side with the elastic piece.
Grab your mitten clip and slide it on the short side without the elastic. You’ll need it to be about 1 1/2″ down the fabric.
Fold the fabric so the clip is in place.
Sew the short side to the piece of fabric to enclose the clip onto the fabric strip.
Now, simply grab a pacifier and loop the elastic around it and you’re done! Easy right?!
And, as you can see it works with both regular pacifier and Soothies.
Why not put together a handmade gift basket for the mother-to-be in your life? Add some of these fun projects and you’ll be the star of the baby shower 😉

Hi,
I’m very new in the sewing world, so I was wondering if you could enlighten me on the purpose of the piece of interfacing? I don’t see how you use it in your pictures. I feel very silly asking this, but as I said, I’m a beginner who can’t wait to create my first pacifier clip!
Happy New Year!

I’m not a super-experienced sewer myself but I think the interfacing is just to provide some “body” or stiffness to the strap to keep it from tying itself in knots.
