Over 25 Ways to Create a Lifelong Love of Reading With Your Kiddos
My mom is a retired school teacher. I remember in her classroom seeing the poster – “You don’t need to read every day, just on the days you eat.” I don’t know why that has stuck with me after all these years, but much to my kids’ dismay it has!
I hate to say it, but my kids just don’t have that love of reading like I’d like them too. When I have some free time, I much prefer a book over TV. So I’ve been thinking…. how do I get them to make that choice too? Of course, Friday nights are pretty much movie nights around here, but other weekdays we need to be engaging our minds with reading a good book, don’t you agree? I’ve found some great tips and tricks that might just work! Good luck!
1 -3. Visit the library on a regular basis, read to your child and incorporate reading into each day. Great tips here!
4 – 10. Have plenty of books for the kids to choose from and plenty of time for them to read. Limit TV and let them get bored, they might just surprise you and pick up a book! Lots more tips here!
11. Most of know how much fun a book club can be, right? Why not help your kids start one? That would definitely make it something fun!
12- 21. Help kids find their niche. I heard once if kids don’t like reading, they just haven’t found the right book yet. It definitely helps them enjoy reading if they can read something they find interesting.
22-31. Meet the authors of their favorite books. I’ve taken the kids before to meet their favorite author when he was in town. They still treasure those memories and love reading their special signed books! This and many great other ideas here.
