Stand in a public place for more than a minute and you’ll watch a sea of colors, textures, and patterns walk by. These diverse wardrobe choices bring 3D art and beauty into our lives on a daily basis. As an expression of self, your wardrobe represents your mood, personality, phase of life, and who you are. Yes, even for the jeans-and-white t-shirt gals out there. No need to label it as “good” or “bad,” “cute” or “not cute,”- Just embrace it.
So, for the New Year, pay attention to what inspires you. What color do you always go back to? What patterns or shapes are you attracted to? What textures do you like the feel of? Still not sure? …Then check back for our fashion posts to find some more inspiration.
So, what’s inspiring me lately?
Right now, I am digging all the Native American and Southwest- inspired pieces out there. They seem to be catching my eye and making their way into my closet! The bold colors, patterns, and natural elements have my attention! It is such a playful way to bring dimension and color into the every day wardrobe, not to mention that I really appreciate and love the Native American culture.
*Side note: It’s important for me to be culturally sensitive, and I wanted to make note that most often the patterns you find in a clothing store are “inspired by” and usually not of one specific tribe or culture.
Now…my tips on wearing such patterns?
-Remember, to keep things simple. Try pairing a bold colorful pattern with something neutral that you already have in your closet. Less can be more.
-Find authentic pieces by visiting local thrift shops or Native American shops.
-Most importantly, have fun with it!

My closet is stacked with white and grey, which I can’t figure out because I love color. I need to bring more color into my wardrobe. I did recently receive a cute pair of yellow earings that I have been wearing with my grey and white and I am loving the pop of color! Thanks for the inspiration, Cristi!

I’m loving this style. You can TOTALLY pull off this feminine tribal look. 🙂 Love the braids with it. Thanks for sharing.

Gotta love the braids…They are great for hiding any bad case of bed head or too lazy to do anything else…sorta like what I had going on this day! 😉
