Ladies, the sun is beaming and summer is just around the corner… you know what that means…
it’s time to pull out your SUMMER HATS!!
I love hats! Nothing adds a little ‘extra’ to your outfit while shading your face like a sun hat!
But hold the phone…these hats are just far too boring. They are in need of a serious makeover! So, I decided to dig around my closet to see what could make my hats better and I discovered that belts, sashes, head pieces, and bow ties make great hat accessories!
Remember how I told you a few weeks ago in this post that I have a hard time getting rid of clothes and accessories?
This is why:
There are endless possibilities! I love to take one thing and use it in a completely different way. You never know when you will need to spice up a hat right?
So if you don’t own a sun hat- HURRY go buy one! I purchased this hat at Target for $2.50! Now it just needs a little TLC- and this little Target hat will be a couture hat in no time!
First, I found a white shear scarf that I wrapped around the hat.
I then added some ribbon I had left over from this project and tied it over the fabric.
Then, I threw on this feathery embellishment I made.
Oh yeah! I suppose I should show you how to make that feather lovely, huh!?
First, I got some felt and reinforced it to make it stiff. Then, I glued on a pin so I could pin it anywhere.
Then for the fun part!.
I grabbed some feathers and glued them to the felt circle.
Then I added these:
Note- if you take sheer fabric and cut it into a circle and hold it over a flame- the ends will curl in. It’s magic. Also, I love the scrapbooking section for embellishments like the pearl stickies- so easy!
And ta-da! A much more exciting hat!
It makes me want to play in the grass and blow dandelion seeds!
Don’t forget to pair it with a cute pair of shoes!
Check out what you have at home to spice up your hat!
Hint hint- these make great Mother’s Day gifts!
Let me know how it goes!

What fun! This would be a great mother daughter activity – I think the time spent making the hat together would be just as precious as the lovely hat you create. 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration.

How did you make the rosette???
Cristi says
I took it from a hair bow that was already made up. Sorry I should have mentioned that little detail. But I think you could make something similar to it with ribbon or maybe just finding an old bow you are no longer using?
