One of my very favorite childhood memories happened right under the Christmas tree. I still vividly remember lying next to my dad directly under the tree. We would look up into all of the branches above us and see the twinkling lights go all the way to the top. My dad would tell me stories as we would gaze up into the magical tree and eventually I would drift asleep. I tried this the other day and although it wasn’t nearly “as magical” as I’d remembered, the memory is special enough.
The Christmas tree is the perfect ‘magical’ prop. Turn on the Christmas Tree lights, turn off every other light in you house, and read Christmas stories as a family.
-I recently heard of a family who reads by the Christmas Tree every night in December and lights a ‘family story candle’ to add to the tradition. Each night the candle melts a little more and more until Christmas day arrives.
-I’ve also heard of families who wrap up 25 Christmas books next to the tree. Each night in December the family unwraps and reads one book. What an exciting story time!
Whether it is as an entire family or a special moment between daddy and daughter, make some magical moments by the Christmas tree this year. Even if it isn’t ‘magical’ to you, I promise it will be to a 6 year child! 🙂
Do you have any special memories or traditions by the Christmas Tree?

I love the idea of the wrapping the books. It is too late to start this year but I am going to go through all our books and get the Christmas ones and watch for them through the year so that I can start next December.

Christmas trees ARE magic, even when you are OLD! I love sitting in a dark room looking at the Christmas tree. It brings peace, sweet memories, and joy.

I love this idea. So simple and special. We do a lot of reading and I love the thought of unwrapping a new book every night.

On the eve of Christmas eve (so the Night of December 23rd) we have a tradition to pull out their sleeping bags and have a sleepover under the tree. They love it!
