Marble is such a desired and popular stone right now, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. Clean, white and whirling patterns with shade variations, it is a unique and beautiful stone. Marble also has a reputation as being expensive. So, I’m going to show you how to bring a touch of marble to a console table, dresser, or bathroom counter without costing an arm and leg. This is an easy-to-make marble vanity tray that is great for displaying beauty essentials or accessorizing your coffee table.
This project is so easy…it will take you 5 minutes to complete. There is some drying time, but after you will have a little spot to place your rings, favorite perfumes, candles and other jewelry items.
Unless you’ve been remodeling, there are a few items you probably don’t have on hand and may need to go out and get.
–Marble Tile
–Long hardware pulls
–Stone Adhesive
I picked up an 8X20″ marble tile from a discounted tile store. It costed me $11. There are many different rectangle tile sizes. I tried to find one that was long enough so I could display many different items but still small enough that it wouldn’t take over an entire dresser top. Also the width needed to work with my hardware pulls.
The hardware pulls I got at Home Depot and then spray painted them metallic gold. I wanted a gold look, and my Home Depot didn’t sell any so I bought what they had on hand, and I pulled out my spray paint. But really any hardware pull finish would do the trick and you can find some really cool pulls if you ordered online.
Next, buy some stone adhesive. This item can also be found at Home Depot in the concrete aisle. This “glue” will give you a strong bond between the pulls and tile.
1. Before you glue, mark you stone with a sharpie where you want the pulls to be placed.
2. Add a little stone adhesive to the bottom of hardware pull and gently place on the marker spots on the tile. Repeat on the other side.
3. Once you push down on the hardware pull, adhesive will bulge out. Take some time to gently wipe the adhesive off with a damp paper towel. This will create a clean look.
Put it in a safe spot and let it set for 48 hours. While you wait, gather up your favorite beauty items and have them ready to display on your new marble vanity tray!
