First off…It’s Missy’s Birthday today!
Whoot! Happy Birthday to You.
I tried to find an 8th grade picture of her, but I didn’t have any luck…so if anyone happens to have one please feel free to email it! I know Missy’s sisters and mother read this blog:) Send them my way please!
Updated…here it is. Thanks Mindy
On with the post…
Mummy Wrapping
My sister in law called me a bit ago and asked if she could barter some of my wood cutting skills with something of hers. I asked her what she was wanting to do…when she told me, I came up with a great trade. I’ll help her cut wood if she lets me do a ‘HowDoesShe’ on her.
Items needed:
My sister in law, Natalie, has talent oozing out all sides. She loves to create and decorate and she’s good at it. Oh and her sister and mom are talented as well. I’ll have to barter some more skills so we can get them on here too. Fun times!
Okay…really I will get on with the tutorial. You are here to learn about crafting and get some cute ideas. I think this one will do!
Natalie grabbed some 2×12’s at the hardware store. We found a cute font on line and printed out (in HUGE letters) the word MUMMY. I don’t remember the font. I’ve thought for 2 days and I can’t remember it. Anything big and block’ie’ will do.
Cut your letters out with scissors and trace around it on your wood. Cut it out with your saw…Oh wait you might not have a saw. Go to the craft store and pick up some pre-cut letters. That will work the same.
Paint the letters ‘leaf green.’ Just use the craft paint. Take blocks to the sander or sandpaper. Rough up the edges a bit.
Take gauze and wrap it around the letters.
Use some stain to add in a bit of ‘oldness.’ I would like to claim that as a new crafting term. Not quite antique, not quite used, but oldness. Just plain ‘oldness.’ A dark walnut stain works best or if you have an antique stamp pad…that will work too.
Now for the hard part. Convince your sister in law to set up her craft outside in the street because you got there too late to take pictures in the house. She is a good lady! All for good lighting, we grabbed her display from her home and took it outside in the middle of the street. Good thing her neighbors don’t know me:)
Make sure to add your spiders to the top of the letters.
Bring on Halloween. Can I just tell you how excited I am to see my kids in their Halloween costumes!?!
We are linking up to these parties…thanks ladies

I am wanting to make the “Mummy” letters, but I’m not sure what type of machine you use to cut the thick board. I have a scroll saw and a blade that is suppose to cut up to 2″ thick wood. It is taking forever. Could you advise me what type of machine or blade you use to cut the letter’s out with. Can’t get anyone to help me find a quicker way to cut out these letters. I couldn’t tell what type of saw you use from the pictures. Thanks for the help.
Alison says
Oh I forgot to say what kind of saw it is. It’s a band saw. I love mine. If you have a scroll saw try and use teeth that are a little bigger…so it cuts faster. It you use a blade that has thin/small/fine teeth then it would be torture! Hope that helps you cut faster:)
