When I saw this idea, I hit my head in a DUH! moment. It is so simple. so easy. and SO GENIUS! And made from leg warmers!?! Why not? They are the perfect size, they are soft and they can be FREE with this code: 5FREEHDS and this link!!
We just happen to love therapy sacks around here and have made many different versions as you can see from these posts.
Therapy Sacks and Boo Boo bags or you could even make a Draft Stopper!
Use these for all kinds of things:
Cold Packs. We keep a couple in the freezer at all times so they are ready when someone gets hurt.
Body Warmers. My kids love using them when they come in from the cold to quickly warm up…especially their hands.
Draft Stoppers. Just put a couple wherever the draft is coming in.
This version takes the cake in simplicity.
Just tie one side of your leg warmer really tight with an elastic band, fill it with rice (drop a few drops of essential on rice if you want), tie the other end and DONE.
The GENIUS in this idea:
1. No sewing.
I used elastic bands (the no metal clasp kind). SO EASY! My kids have been throwing these around like bean bags with no spillage.
GET THE ELASTIC BANDS HERE.
2. You can refresh your essential oils whenever you want – or even change scents. I love Lavender.
GET OILS HERE
3. You can wash the material when needed! Just untie, dump rice, wash, reload, re-tie!
4. The best part…did I mention they are FREE? (before shipping)

Genius! My daughter has leg warmers that are hardly used and now too small for her, making some tomorrow (or whenever I get around to it) 🙂

OMG! This is GENIUS!!! I was wondering how to spoil my whole family this year for Christmas and there you came with this idea! Just one question : how many oil drops should I put in the rice before filling? Thank you so much for everything you do 🙂
Lisa H says
Delphine- I wouldn’t put the essential oils on the rice ahead of time. Heat eliminates the therapeutic properties of the oils. Just fill with rice, nuke and then add a drop of oil to the outer fabric to benefit from the oils. You could include a small dram or two of different oil scents in your gift. Maybe get someone “hooked on oils” in the process! 😉

I’m not quite sure about how you fasten these. A pony tail holder doesn’t quite seem sufficient and rubber bands aren’t exactly pretty.

Just wanted to add that when using the coupon code to check out it does not include shipping. The post mentions these being free (AFTER shipping) so I thought that it meant the coupon included shipping but it is actually applied BEFORE shipping. Shipping was $14.99 so I decided not to do it BUT I make these for my kids using adult knee high socks by cutting off the foot and making the middle part of the foot into a cuff but I bet you could do it without sewing since they are not going to be worn! I am going to go get some kne e high socks in various patterns at the dollar store and make some of these for teacher gifts. Thanks so much for the great idea!

Hello all,
Shipping was $14.99, but that is for 5 pairs (10 baby legs= 10 booboo bags for gifts/stocking stuffers. Also, after you process the website gives you a link to post to facebook. If 5 of your friends use the code provided to you then your shipping is refunded. Worth a try…

I use men’s tube socks and tie a knot in the end. Also can use fuzzy socks as covers, easier to wash and helps keep heat in longer & keeps them pretty longer!
With those you can tie off areas to make into snowmen…
Great for warming beds and cold feet!
I’ve been able to find LG packages of tube socks & then on sale for buy 1 get 1 free.

I wish I could of done that but shipping was $16.89 that is really high cost for that small weight. thank you and GOD bless.

Where do you get your essential oils?

Can’t find the page with order form/selection of colors. Also, what are they filled with? Thanks!

I am in love with this idea!! Already ordered the leggings!! Great gift for teachers and those hard to buy for friends!!! Thank you so much for this great and easy idea!!

I ordered 8 pair! Even with shipping and the $6 for the 3 additional pair, I feel it is worth it! I now have a gift for 16 family and friends (therapy bags and a couple pairs will be a gift for my 14 month old niece)! I paid just under $25 for these last minute Christmas gifts! Added bonus: I already have rice and essential oils on hand! Thanks for posting this!

Please email me your response )I need to make these tonight) I’m REALLY that the elastic bands will deteriorate or melt when put in the microwave a few times. :/ isn’t this a concern?? I know MY gift-receivers would NOT be happy with spilled rice all over their floor. 🙁 Thoughts?
Lisa says
Oops – should have read “I’m really CONCERNED”…..
Joni says
I’m also curious about the elastic in the microwave…anyone? Does it hold?
Julie says
So I am ready to make these as gifts- did anyone ever try it? Did the elastic hold up?
Megan says
How much rice did you put in them? Thank you! Already ordered them:)

Very cute! Another idea is what my girls did at their church group – very similar. Using an old pillowcase and about a 1/2 yard of pretty fabric. Pour rice into pillowcase (just 2-3 cups). Fold over about 1/3 of pillowcase (extra) so rice is only in remaining 2/3. Roll up pillowcase from the bottom. Place on top of pretty fabric (they cut with pincking shears so it wouldn’t ravel) and roll up again, tootsie roll style. Secure ends with pretty matching ribbon (since the rice is rolled up so well, no worries about it escaping even if you don’t knot the ribbon). These are a bit bigger than the baby leggings would be and are nice for around the neck or anywhere really (my girls like to put them down by their feet when climbing into a cold bed at night!).
No sewing. Easy!

I too was very excited when I saw this easy project and ordered the leggings paying for shipping. As I dug farther into my research I am reading certain materials should not be microwaved. I received my leggings today, finding they are 80% cotton, 15% polyester, and 5% spandex. My research indicates polyester and spandex should NOT be microwaved due to melting and even fire capabilities! A bit scary and now disappointed, I am wondering- has anyone actually used the leggings in the microwave and have they had any issues?
