27 Super-Duper Cool Dance Ask Ideas and Answers
1. I’m “dying” to go with you.
My best dance ask was when I got with the local mortician of our small town and we set up the most epic proposal. I had a bunch of helium balloons tied to a sign with my picture on it that said, “Will you go to Winter Ball with me?” We put the balloons in a casket and closed the lid. Then the mortician drove his hearse to my date’s house and told him he needed to come to the funeral home to identify a body.
While my date rode in a hearse to a funeral home, he was freaking out! At the funeral home, the mortician led my date to the casket and slowly opened the lid. when the balloons sprung out, my date was immensely relieved. It was the best ask ever!
In return, he answered me by drawing a body silhouette on my sidewalk with chalk and surrounding it in caution tape. His message said, “I’m dying to go with you!”
2. Wanted: Dead or Alive
Another fun ask I did in high school was by creating about a hundred Old West-themed “Wanted” posters. I got a funny photo of my date and copied it with the words: “Wanted: Dead or Alive. Jacob Jones to go to the dance with me. See the office for details.” I hung the posters all over the school and gave the secretary a card with my name and phone number to give my date when he came to the office to inquire.
3. Guess Who game
Use the game Guess Who to ask your date to a dance. You can replace all the photos with magazine or yearbook cutouts with your photo as the target for your date to “guess who.”
4. “Puzzled?”
This is one our blog manager Bobbi did. Create a custom puzzle and write the message, “Will you go to ___ with me? Sincerely, ______” Separate the puzzle pieces into a dozen balloons and then fill them up with air or helium. Have someone deliver the balloons to your date to decipher the puzzle.
5. Cookie bouquet
Deliver a cookie bouquet with the message, “It would be SWEET if you went to _____ with me!”
6. Medieval times
One of Bobbi’s most memorable dance asks was when her date left a medieval scroll on her doorstep, written in Old English, asking her to the dance and telling her the time her chariot would arrive. You could take this a step further and deliver the scroll to a trumpet fanfare. How cool would that be?

15. Cerealsly
You could do this a few ways, but the ask is always the same: “It would be CEREAL-SLY cool if you went to the dance with me.” Give your date a box of cereal with your name hidden inside and they’ll have to sort to find out who is asking them. Or glue a bunch of mini-boxes of cereal to a large t-shirt with the message written on the shirt. There are lots of possibilities!
