Newspaper Nails Tutorial
How many of you ladies out there are just loving Pinterest?
Me, Me! Oh ME! I am constantly finding adorable ideas and delicious recipes. As I was searching for some fashion inspiration, I came across this brilliant newspaper nails tutorial. I couldn’t resist giving it a try, and it just so happens… It looks adorable!
Supplies:
nail file
base coat & top coat
light color nail polish (white or cream works best)
small strips of newspaper
alcohol
small glass dish
First, find a font/style of type on a newspaper you like. Cut small strips out of the newspaper that are big enough to cover your nails. Shape and file your nails till they are just the way you like! Paint them with a base and 2 or more coats of color. Let them dry completely.
Once they are dry pour a little bit of alcohol in a small glass dish. One finger at a time, dip your nail in the alcohol for 10-15 seconds.
Newspaper Nail Art
Quickly grab a piece of newspaper and firmly press it on your nail. You want to do this step fairly fast, if you press it on too long the nail polish will stick to the paper and come off. Roll your finger as you gently pull the newspaper off the nail. AMAZING! The text from the paper sticks to your polish. Continue doing each finger until all your nails are covered in text. It might take a few tries to get this down, but once you get the hang of it… Piece of cake!
To finish off this cute look and make your polish last longer, paint with a top coat.
*Wanna learn a cool trick to making sure your polish is dry? This is the real deal here! When you’re ready to test your nails and make sure they’re dry: tap two painted nails together if you feel any “stick” they are not dry. You should get a nice click and smooth touch when you tap two completely dry nails together!
Have fun painting!

Lara,
I’m definitely going to try this soon as well. I do notice that the original tutorial link was in French. The “European” version suggests using vodka as the version of “alcohol” to dip your painted nails in. I wonder if the difference between rubbing alcohol and drinking alcohol (hey, they’re French!) might make a difference in the sticky factor? Just a thought…
Obviously, if you’re going to try this with vodka, it might be wise to try it alone or with adult girlfriends before bringing it out at your 9-year-old’s birthday party for the premiere. It’s all in the supervision I’m sure.
How fun would this be with using the Sunday comics?
Thanks very much for the idea – it’s sure to be a winner around our house!

Nice idea, did you know you can also do this with photos from magazines ? the glossy ones of course, Careful with the top coat though, don’t want to smudge, just make sure the pics are really dry before you apply. x

i just tried this tonight! it works a little better/easier if you dip the strips of newspaper in the alcohol, then on the nail. Firmly press all around the nail for 5 seconds and voila!

Does this still work if your nails are black and the font is white? With a dark background of course.
Cristina says
Hi!Very nice idea, but I’ve tried and not succeeded because the nail polish remains attached to the newspaper 🙁 Why? What can I do?
Thank you!! 🙂

This is an awesome tutorial! Thanks for the detailed high res pics too. If you want your newspaper nails to stay on super long, try using a gel top coat (like Shellac or Gelish). Mine last almost 3 weeks that way!

Does this work if you print something out from your computer?

I did this using a gray polish and it came out much nicer than the white. Very fun thing to do with daughter and her friends.

I can never get anything beyond one coat of anything to dry even though I paint thinly. What’s the secret?
Polishperfect says
This technique can be used for transferring various shapes or cartoon characters. For example, if you want to paint a rose on your nail, but you don’t have skills for painting, you may find a drawing of a rose from coloring book, or print it from the computer. After everything is finished, you may add some color and top coat.

Just wow!!
What i liked about this trick is that it is quite simple and easy to follow and does not require anything which is not already available at my home.
And I think there is much to experiment with, one can try various coloured newspapers and characters to get the look one want!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful trick which is quick and simple!
