Ladies. Things are about to get a little maternal up in here. I’ve got a bump to dress, and I’m taking you with me.
Not with EVERY post mind you … but this is my first time down this road before, I’m growing lumpier by the day and it’s terribly exciting my friends.
Now. Let’s turn the tables a bit here. Who’s got bump advice?
Teach me your ways oh wise ones.
Heather Lynne says
Woo! Congratulations Sydney! 🙂
Can’t wait to see what you do with that bump!

two words…. belly bands!
Congrats.

Two more words: ….are awesome!

Congrats girl! My advice would be to keep crackers by the bed if your nauseous, invest in a body pillow if you are having trouble getting comfy, and enjoy every minute of your pregnancy journey!

My advice when it comes to dressing that bump: get a belly band!! You can find them online, at Motherhood, or even at Target. They allow you wear your regular jeans longer saving you money on maternity pants. You are so tiny I’m sure you will fit in them for a while. Some people like them, others don’t but I pretty much worshiped mine. I wore it almost the whole pregnancy and was able to wear my regular jeans with the band up until the last month. Plus, it helped me fit back into my pre-prego jeans faster after the baby was born. I say give it a try. 🙂 So excited for you and Tyson!

IF you don’t have a belly band handy….use a hair tie (rubberband) hook it on the button of your jeans and loop it thru the hole and back onto the button….this helps with the post partum part too. I also have a belly band and loved it but it got tight on my extremely large belly, the rubberband you can roll your jeans under your belly.

Wish I looked that cute pregnant!

Well, I’m expecting my third and dressing my bump, too. But I’m guessing I’m not near as far along as you are, since this is, after all, my third and the ole ab muscles are a bit stretched by now. You are looking cute!
What I love to wear while pregnant is the jersey t-shirts you can get at Motherhood. They have ruching up the side so you can wear them all pregnancy and afterwards. I also invested in a couple of skinny belts this time around to belt right under the bust so I can bring some definition to the more “tent-y” shirts in the third trimester. And I’m either going to buy or attempt to make myself belly bands this time. That’s been the one thing I’ve been lacking the last two times. And, unless you really LOVE maternity clothes, you can wear regular clothes, just use the skinny belt. For example, go through hubby’s closet and find a shirt you like. The skinny belt makes it a dress and a flower pin makes it girly! Wear with leggings or skinny jeans. And WEAR FLATS!!!! I LIVE in my flats when I’m pregnant. I love my heels, but pregnancy is when I dress down and am comfortable AT ALL TIMES!

My-advice-is-get-cloths-that-are-comfy-and-can-grow-with-you-but-make-you-feel-gorgeous-because-believe-at-7months-and-on-you-will-feel-nothing-but-huge-so-the-cute-cloths-help-make-you-feel-happier!

Congrats! You are going to be the cutest prego lady EVER! I am on board with the Belly Bands! I had them in every color offered and wore them religiously. They offer a great deal of support to that growing belly as well as allowing you to wear your regular clothes longer.
Again, Congrats!!!
Tracey says
I also think the belly bands are a great idea. They didn’t work for me to help keep my pants up while unbuttoned early on, but during the last few weeks when even my longest maternity shirts didn’t quite cover me, I wore the belly band under my shirts to close the gap.
Danielle says
My advice, is enjoy every bit of it. Don’t hide your bumb, baby bellies are beautiful and you should show it off with pride!
amy miller says
ok, so not everyone will agree with me and sunscreen is a must for sure… but I have winter babies meaning that I am always prego during the summer months. So my philosophy is that dark meat is better than white meat=) get that belly tan and show it off. You already feel bigger than anyone actually thinks you are, do not try to cover it up too. Find some fun shorts and tanks or tote that bikini and just add a cute little skirt coverup when you cannot shave anymore=)
Hannah says
Yes! I agree! Belly bands are a must!

Summer’s coming up and when I was “round” with my daughter I LIVED in Old Navy Jersey-Stretch Tanks. They were great for lounging or under cute flowing blouses because they always formed to my belly and didn’t leave the bottom half out in the breeze.
Definitely a must-have in my pregnancy guide.
Emily says
I’m 6 1/2 mos pregnant in HOT Fresno and I took the advice of a gorgeous, also-pregnant friend and picked up several of those long, tank type dresses at Forever 21. Not maternity but in the right fabric they are perfect. They are pretty, flowing, and cool (by cool I mean not too hot). I like that I can put a sweater over them in the fall after baby is born and still get plenty of use.
I am NOT a fashionista, though, so this may be the worst tip ever. 🙂
Jessica says
Dresses, dresses, dresses. I wore many of my pre-pregnancy dresses with skinny belts above my belly bump, turning many regular(?) waisted dresses into empire waist dresses. After baby, I just switched out the skinny belts for chunky belts around my waist. Believe it or not, chunky belts help to hide that not-so-tight post-pregnant belly.
Nita says
Congrats! My advice is to not spend a ton on maternity clothes. Find a couple of really nice basic pieces and build around those. Lyering tanks are good because they are longer. And I, too, think belly bands are wonderful!
Catherine says
Bella Bands are great, but if you’re SUPER morning-sick like I was, ANYTHING that’s too tight on that belly will make you feel nauseous. There are some really cute Empire-waist dresses out there that would be great for that transition period of “I’m too fat for my old clothes but not preggo enough for maternity clothes” now that it’s getting warmer. I also lived in jersey skirts my last trimester (also summer). Great to dress up or down! I got one from Old Navy & one from a boutique clearance sale. Good luck!
Cherith says
Congrats! Stretchy fabrics, tums and slip on shoes were life-savers for me; enjoy this lovely time.
Letti says
Congrats! I am a mother to six and I can still remember the excitement of each pregnancy. One thing I wish I would have done is taken more pregnancy pictures. I was embarrassed at the time but now looking back it was just me being insecure.
Kate says
How can you look so freakin’ cute?! Congratulations!!
Shelley says
Oh Sydney. You look so dang cute. I can’t wait to see how you dress that bump of yours. Enjoy every minute of it. 🙂

My advice…live it up! EVERYBODY loves a pregnant lady. Especially a smartly dressed one.

Congratulations! I’m about 6 months along and am excited to find another website with inspiring maternity wear pics! A fun website to check out is http://www.aintnomomjeans.com for some fun ideas on how to dress for each trimester, and just some solid fashion advice for postpartum moms! This is #2 for me, and it’s so fun to see someone on their adventure with #1! Congrats!! You look beautiful!

My advice with a belly bump… don’t try to hide it! They always say that pregnant ladies glow so why not let the baby shine on?!
Mindy says
I bought all tight fitting clothes to show off my bump! Then when baby came, I realized, I don’t want all that tight fitting clothes to show off what my baby left me 🙁 So my advice is to remember that you’ll have a bump that you don’t want to show off a few months post birth!
Angie says
Congratulations! You look darling! Enjoy every single second. That bump will soon be a sweet baby snuggling in your arms! 🙂
Maryannne @Scrappy Gifts says
Congrats! You look fabulous as always! Hope you’re feeling well!
Belly bands worked great for me beginning pregnancies, but I carry so low they don’t work later on. They’re also great for postpartum. The rubber band idea works for a while too.
I love Old Navy’s woven waistband maternity jeans – they don’t even look maternity and wash well: http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5852&vid=1&pid=818407
Maternity tanks are great especially towards the end when some of your maternity shirts might not fit over your belly – the tank underneath will cover it up. Looking at you now though, you probably won’t get that big.
Accessories are probably the best thing to have because it seems a lot of maternity clothes are plain with no patterns. I did find a bunch of shirts with pattern on it at Ross though.
Dresses! They’re so easy and great for the end. They have dresses that can be used as chic hospital gowns and then are great to wear when nursing too like the one I wore here:

I love all the ideas that have been mentioned. I think my favorite has been the ideas on using belts to add emphasis to the bump. I know I always searched for shirts that had ties in the back. That showed off the bump at an earlier stage. I rarely looked in the maternity section for tops till the end. Instead just buy a size larger and they’ll work great!
Good luck with it!

capri or shorter leggings are comfy too cause they stretch with you and if you wear a longer top it’s really pretty cute on comfy and great for hot weather and you can still bend and move around without worrying that you’re showing something off. There’s a ton of normal clothes styles that work for maternity so you can skip the extra expense on most maternity things, but not jeans…find some good maternity jeans…not sure where to recommend. Drink lots of water and eat healthy foods to help keep the water retention down.
Emily says
Congrats! You look beautiful! I have a one year old and my only advice is enjoy every single moment you can! I love being a mommy, it is the best blessing ever. My favorite item when i was pregnant was the Snoogle… its a body pillow to support you and your little bump. Good luck – also drink plenty of water!
Becca says
Congrats! You look about as far along as I am with my first too. I have been getting lots of clothes from friends, which is a HUGE cost saver! I also found that instead of the expensive belly bands, I am using a black tube top! Got it for $3 at Savers and it works great!
Brittney says
I could hardly find maternity tops that I thought were “me” or cute. I ended up wearing a lot of baby doll tops. Worked perfectly. 🙂 Congrats.
christa says
the gap always skinny maternity jeans are aMAHzing. and just going up in sizes of regular things…i found a lot of old navy and target tanks were super long…long enough to cover the belly and great for layering.
Kollinda says
I just had my first child 7 weeks ago and the belly band is amazing, but my favorite thing to wear (the last month especially) were maxi dresses. They are great because you will be able to wear them after. I also bought a pair of jeans a few sizes bigger and was able to wear them up until the last few weeks buttoned up. Enjoy pregnancy, it’s amazing. I would also recommend getting maternity pictures in the 8th month. I am so glad I did…wish I had taken more weekly and monthly pictures to watch the growth. Good luck!

Is there a specific name for that skirt or location where it is? I have to get it. And your baby bump looks fake, youre to cute!
