Quick and Easy Roast Beef Gyros with Tzatziki Sauce
Okay, what in the world is a Gyro? I get it. It’s not a common dish, really, but it’s OH so good. A gyro is a Greek dish made from meat (usually lamb, beef, or chicken) roasted on a cool vertical rotisserie and served with cheese and some roasted veggies (tomato and onion – yum!) on a pita with some tzatziki sauce. Yeah, tzatziki – say that three times fast. As delicious as they are, how many of us have a traditional vertical Greek rotisserie at our houses? Yeah, me neither. SO, I’ve got a great solution to have your gyro and eat it, too. It only takes a few minutes of cooking to produce this meal that has major ‘yum’ factor. What is the secret ingredient? Oscar Mayer’s Selects Natural deli meat. Specifically, their Slow Roasted Roast Beef.
Yes, I know – deli meat. I have spent years keeping a long distance relationship with deli meats, but Oscar Mayer Selects Natural is different. Their meat is made with no artificial ingredients, is minimally processed, has no artificial preservatives (the back side of each package lists the ingredients used to preserve quality), no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, no gluten and no by-products. Basically, this stuff is amazing. I know, it sounds unreal, but with no artificial ingredients and real quality taste, you can rely on to be one thing that’s not too good to be true. With , you really don’t need to give up the good stuff to enjoy the quality cold cuts your family deserves. And you’ll taste the quality in these Gyros. Your family will think you were slaving over a stove all day. Hey, it’s our little secret. 😉
When I say these are easy, I mean it. Because the meat is already cooked, all you have to do is sauté the meat, stir together a tzatziki, and toast some naan or pita. Fill the warmed bread with some meat, then top off with plenty of veggies, the sauce, and a sprinkle of feta cheese. After a taste of these, you won’t likely be tempted by the takeout versions again. For real. This recipe serves 2.
Ingredients:
Filling
- ½ tablespoon olive oil
- 4 ounces Slow Roasted Roast Beef, sliced
- 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp lemon pepper
- 1 dash paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder, divided
- black pepper, to taste
Tzatziki
- 1/2 cucumber, finely diced
- 1 (8-ounce) container Greek Yogurt
- 1/4 red onion, finely diced
- 2 dashes white wine vinegar
- ½ teaspoon dill
- ½ teaspoon salt
To Serve
- 2 pita or naan (or whatever flat bread you like)
- olive oil (for coating)
- 1/2 cucumber, sliced
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 2 ounces crumbled feta cheese
- 6 ounces black olives, sliced
Directions:
- Heat oil in a medium skillet and add sliced beef, Worcestershire sauce, lemon pepper, paprika, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, black pepper. Cook to heat through.
- To make the Tzatziki sauce, mix finely diced cucumber, diced red onion, vinegar, yogurt, and remaining seasonings. Let sit, covered, in fridge. Can make ahead.
- Lightly brush olive oil on flat bread and pan fry over low heat until soft and warmed – this is an important step because it really softens the flat bread and makes it easier to wrap. Fill with beef, tzatziki, feta, tomato, remaining cucumber, and olives. Serve!
I mean, can you almost taste the goodness? These are so fresh and delicious – and (gasp!) good for you!
