I woke up this weekend feeling blissful. I was so excited it was Saturday. No hurry to rush kids through the routine of getting ready for school and making it to the bus stop. No lunches to pack. No last-minute homework to finish. Other than soccer games and a little tinkering in the yard we had the whole day to ourselves! Yahoo!
And then I felt it. That ache in the back of my throat, the beginnings of a headache and a stuffy nose. Blah. Inevitably, when we kick off the new school year we also kick off the season of runny noses, sore throats, and yucky coughs.
I don’t like to be sick. Seriously, who does?
The very second I feel myself getting sick or if I hear my kids sniffling and sneezing…I brew my magic herbal tea. It’s amazing! A few years ago, a family friend shared this herbal tea recipe with me(thanks Karen!). I LOVE IT. It really works. A few days of drinking this stuff and you will feel great! If it doesn’t nip your ailment in the bud it will decrease the severity and duration of it. Promise. Tried and true!
Here is what you will need:
1 Tablespoon of each of these herbs:
Chamomile Peppermint Red Clover Rose Hips Yarrow Raspberry Leaves
This is how you make it:
First…boil yourself a pot of water (8 cups).
Second…turn off the unit and add your herbs.
Third…cover with a lid and steep for 20-30 minutes.
You can put all of your herbs into a tea bag or just add them directly to your pot of boiling water. After your herbs have steeped for 20-30 minutes strain the tea (using a fine mesh strainer) into a pitcher.
Pour it into a mug and sip away. Your tea will be pretty hot, so don’t burn yourself! I think it tastes best warm or you can chill it in the fridge. My kids like a little bit of honey drizzled in and stirred up. Drink at least 4 or more glasses a day for about three or four days as needed.
There’s nothing better than a warm mug of herbal yummy-ness to soothe away your sickness! 🙂
Happy Brewing!
FYI: The best place that I have found for buying herbs in bulk online is here. I bought one pound of each herb for this recipe nearly three years ago and I still haven’t used it all. It cost me just under $50, and another $12 for shipping.
OR you can try some for free using your free $10.00 vitacost credit, here and score free shipping!

You didn’t ad comfrey to your list, but it’s on the plate.
Does this get added too?
