We travel to northern California every summer because my in-laws live there, and that is where my husband grew up. One of my favorite places to visit is a beautiful place called Half Moon Bay. It is all about farms and everything fresh.
Everywhere I went everyone was talking about all things tomatoes. Everyone had freshly picked tomatoes in their kitchens from their backyard gardens dripping in balsamic, salt, and pepper. I couldn’t get enough.
There are all different types of tomatoes but my favorite have to be the gorgeous heirloom. I could honestly eat a caprese salad everyday. I was eating in Union Square in San Francisco and they brought me out a caprese with gorgeous white heirloom tomatoes.
HEIRLOOM TOMATOES
Heirloom tomatoes means that it is a variety of tomatoes that have been passed down from gardener to gardener. Most heirloom tomatoes grow well in large containers. I love to put them on my patio or balcony.
SUN GOLD or GOLD RUSH
The Sun Gold are the round yellow tomatoes in the picture above on the left. They are so sweet and tangy and I love them better then the cherry tomato. I made a basil and sausage pasta and the Sun Golds made it extra special.
YELLOW PEAR
On the left in the picture above is the Yellow Pear. It is the perfect snack.
I love to put the little heirlooms on the counter for an easy delicious snack for my children to eat. They love to dip them in a little bit of sea salt and pepper and a little bit of extra virgin olive oil.
I also like to add some fresh mozzerella, basil, and a touch of balsamic vinegar and you have a caprese salad on a stick. Great for an appetizer for a dinner party or a healthy summer snack.
HEALTH BENEFITS
Heirloom tomatoes have a lot of health benefits.
1.They are a great source of vitamin K which is great for strengthening your bones.
2. They are also very low in calories and are great for a low-cal snack.
3. Tomatoes are rich in potassium which is great for lowering blood pressure.
4. Heirloom tomatoes are a great source of vitamin C which helps to reduce stress.
The uglier the heirloom the more delicious it tastes. I loved that when I cut this one in half it was in a heart shape. This is the Green Heirloom.
I love the White Tomato it is one of the best tomatoes I have ever eaten. It is so sweet and perfect for my favorite caprese salad.

Wow–I love tomatoes so much that I really love this post. There are so many people that do not like tomatoes or can’t eat them because of the acidy. I feel so sorry for them because they are missing out on a wonderful, healthy treat. Thank you for bringing tomatoes to our attention.
