I recently experimented by ‘rimming’ my hot cocoa cup. I can confidently tell you that this could be my creative high of 2011. A-mazing! I can’t even explain to you how divine ‘Peppermint-Rimming’ is. ‘Peppermint-Rimming’?! Not an official term? It is now. Add it to your vocabulary because ‘Peppermint-Rimming’ is will be the newest rave! 😉
Aren’t they pretty? Yes, they taste as good as they look!
First start by crushing peppermint candy. Now I am sure candy canes would work, but candy canes aren’t my thing. I wanted a soft peppermint candy that would melt quickly. I tried both soft dinner mint peppermints and ‘Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips‘ both incredible.
The soft peppermint candies can be found at the dollar store, or just about any grocery store this time of year. Make sure to chop them extra fine. My little hands got tired of chopping so I stuck them in a food processor.
Simply dip the rim of your mug in melted chocolate…
and follow immediately by dipping your chocolate rimmed mug in peppermint goodness…
Let chocolate cool for appx 5 min. {These could be prepared in advance for guests}.
Fill with your favorite hot cocoa and get ready to FALL. IN. LOVE.
Let me try to explain,… When you sip the hot cocoa, it immediately melts the chocolate rimmed edge, while melting the peppermint candy, creating the perfect texture of chocolaty gooey peppermint goodness. Okay, words don’t do it justice. Just try it. Trust me.
The ‘Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips‘ I found at my local grocery store. I admit, they aren’t quite as pretty, but the peppermint baking chips have a heavenly creamy base. Definitely worth trying too.
I honestly can’t pick a favorite. You’ll have to vote after you try them:
The Soft Peppermint Candy Rimmed….
OR the ‘Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips‘ Rimmed…
Either way, you can’t go wrong.

This would be a fun addition to the hot chocolate ‘word art’ I just posted on U-Create.

Oooh! Those looks super yummy!! I have always topped my hot chocolate with the Reddi-Whip and then sprinkled cookie sprinkles on top for my kids… I love the idea of the peppermint – even putting some on top of the whipped cream.
The chocolate rim just adds a whole new dimension of delish goodness to hot chocolate! Thanks for sharing!

This has become a Christmas morning tradition. I’m adding the marshmallows on a stick dipped in chocolate… rolled in the peppermint too. This way the adults can use it in their coffee. 🙂
