As a woman who spends the majority of my time with children both at home and at work, it is difficult justifying wearing anything other than stretchy pants and an over-sized t-shirt. (Let’s be honest- I have many days like that)
BUT ladies, It is still possible to invite femininity and sexiness back into daily life even while changing diapers or rushing kids off to basketball practice. In fact, I feel more sexy and feminine post-baby than I did prior to having my little man. Something about the beauty of motherhood that radiates from the inside out.
So, there’s hope.
But it starts by putting down the mom jeans and sneakers and re-discovering and re-inventing yourself.
Baby steps…start by just observing the simple things that you do or wear that make you have a little pep in your step. Then, plan to incorporate it more often in your wardrobe.
I did a little observing over the holiday weekend and discovered my list of 5 things that are “bringing my sexy back”:
1. Top knots
2. Extra tall boots
3. Gold jewelry
4. Painted nails and lipstick
5. Sparkly dresses
(Jewelry and Gold Cardigan: Banana Republic, Black sparkly Dress: Forever 21, Black Leather Boots: Guess)
Now, I am dying to know….what is on your “bringing sexy back in 2012” list?
Happy New Year!!

It is amazing how the little things can just make you feel dressed up – which makes all the difference. Great ideas Cristi!

Missy-
It is all about the little things!!

Great ideas i guess. It’s hard when you’re on a tight budget though and you can’t afford all those cute expensive clothes. It would be great to get a new wardrobe and have everything be new and cute but i gotta deal with what i have which is pretty sad boring mom clothes 🙁
Kit says
You’re not alone, Jillyn. I, too, have a non-existent budget for anything that’s not bills. So, I love fashion blogs and fashion posts, but, generally they just end up making me depressed.

I am going to start paying more attention and make a list. Great tips!

Good tips, although not practical for the breastfeeding or pumping mamas out there. Could you post some tips for those of us who need easy access to baby’s milk? 🙂
Cristi dame says
Oh ya and cardigan was also 50% off at banana republic outlet!

Oops the above comment was in addition to another comment! Commenting from my phone! 🙂

I hear you- it can get expensive- however, I only shop clearance, tjmaxx, outlets, or thrift shops. I need to do a post on cheap yet cute shopping! Shoes I got at Tj Maxx- leggings I got at clearance at Zara, dress was clearance at forever 21, jewelry was half off at the banana republic outlet store- I am super cheap and need to remember to include it in my posts!! Happy New Year!

Ditto!!! Also, I never buy anything full-price. There’s just no need with all the great sales and discount stores out there. I also think it’s really important to budget a little bit for new clothes every now and then. I’m talking a small budget, like $30-ish a month so you can have a new top or two. The reason for this is, you’re making an investment in yourself. It may sound shallow to put so much stock in clothes, but think about how great you feel when you’re wearing your favorite outfit or you dress up for an occasion. We deserve that feeling every day! Especially when motherhood takes so many things out of our lives to make way for the all-important mommy tasks, we need to keep some semblance of womanhood about us or we’ll wake up 10 years down the road and not have a single thing that makes us feel like ourselves. A put-together mom is a happy mom, because she remembers that she’s an individual too.

Great tips! This has me written all over it. I keep saying I want to stop dressing in “shlubby” clothes, but I haven’t been able to make it stick
Key for me is – comfortable, and easy to throw together. I’m not a morning person and tend to run late for drop off, so I grab the first thing I see intending to “pretty up” once I get back. The thing is , is once its on it stays on.
Getting a couple of inexpensive new things would be an incentive. I also need to get rid of the worn out comfortable stuff to for e a change!
Thanks for the ideas 🙂
Cristi Dame says
Michelle-
I love the word “shlubby!” I can relate- I am still trying to appreciate early mornings myself…not a fan…but working on that.
So, inexpensive and comfortable is totally a must. However, maybe a few date night outfits as well for the evening out with the hubby. 😉

Great attitude Lindsay! I agree- we have to remember about taking care of ourselves when we are taking care of so many others! 😉

I am a full-faced makeup girl, EVERY day. It’s what makes me feel like a woman, and I love the process of putting it on and finding new looks (a hobby from back before baby and marriage that I love keeping up). I have always been a bit of a tomboy so it’s easy for me to fall into the jeans-and-sneakers rut now that I’m a full-time mom. But the easiest way for me to combat that is to keep the jeans and T-shirts but swap out the sneakers for boots or cute flats (or, at the very least, bright and colorful sneakers) and the hoodie for a funky cardigan. Also, jewelry is the quickest way to take an outfit up a notch or two and to add your own personality to an otherwise boring outfit. It’s minimal effort and one definitely worth making!
Cristi Dame says
Lindsay-
Totally agreed. Jewelry is fast and effortless…and makes a HUGE difference! So, does a little makeup here and there!! Great insight!

My New Year’s resolution is to get out of my sweats and into something that makes me feel pretty each day. Love your tips. I’m starting my list with my Born boots, pretty scarfs and comfy jeans. I’m going to add a new basic lip color and blush. Headed to the make-up counter this week.:) Thanks for the great motivation. You look darling!
