Have you ever tried making your own churros?
By accident, we found a super easy way to make them!
My husband came home from the Bulk Barn (a bulk foods store we have in Canada) with a donut mix. (If you can’t find one in the bulk foods section of your grocery store, I’m sure you could use a simple donut recipe online, but if you find a mix, you’re in luck- ours was a “just add water” mix :))
So, we added water & we had our mix (super easy, right?). Then we thought our mix seemed pretty watery, so we tried putting it in one of those icing bags with a star tip like this: (I used a large one that would normally be used to decorate cupcakes)
Then we squeezed the batter out into a pot with hot oil in it. We didn’t really even have to squeeze- it just came through the tip easily!
You can try to make it straight like a typical churro, or make it all twisty- go ahead and get creative! 🙂
Let it cook for a few seconds until it gets golden on the bottom. Flip it & let the other side get golden.
Here’s a really twisty, pretzel-like one:
Then take it out and put it in a dish of sugar mixed with cinnamon. Let the sugar mix coat the fresh churro & set it aside.
That’s it! Just repeat & repeat until you’ve got lots of delicious churros & enjoy! 🙂
I hope you will try this- it’s so fun to make together as a family! Of course the hot oil part is good for parents, and the sugar coating part is really fun for kids to help with!
