Caught Ya Being Good Free Exclusive Printables
Is there anything better than some good, old fashioned praise? Some sincere acknowledgement? We all love to have our positive behaviors and efforts acknowledged, don’t we? It’s human nature to do more of what brings a benefit to us, and our kids are no different. As parents, we know it’s our role to correct and direct, so often our efforts are focused on recognizing and “leaping on” bad behavior. But our kids need to us to catch them being good, too! The first step for us parents using praise to reinforce our child’s good behavior is learning to catch him or her being good! Makes sense, right?
That’s why the amazing Chickabug created this exclusive set of free “Caught Ya Being Good!” printables for our HowDoesShe readers!
Print and use!
Simply print one copy of the first page and a few of the second page. Cut the label on the first page and adhere it to a jar, box, or whatever you’ve got handy. If you want to fancy up the jar – feel free! I mean, this is about celebrating something WONDERFUL – why not get a little fancy?
Set that cute jar somewhere where you’ll see it often and, more importantly, where your kiddos will see it!
Cut out the cards – in fact, print a bunch of the second page and cut out a BUNCH of cards! Keep them in the jar, or somewhere near by.
Now, you simply wait and watch.
Be present. Pay attention. You’ll soon be catching your kids doing all kinds of good and wonderful things.
When you notice them being good, grab one of those cards and jot down what you caught them doing that impressed you!
Put those cards into the jar.
What you do from this point on can vary and is entirely up to you! You can wait until the end of the week and sit down together as a family to read the cards.
There is a lot of joy in simply having them be celebrated for the good they have done – to see them being recognized for their sweet natures.
It might surprise YOU, but this might just be reward enough.
Set some goals!
If you choose to, you can set a goal together that when your child has earned a certain number of cards, she gets a reward of some kind. How you choose to go about this can differ and it completely up to YOU! We love versatility! And you will love the joy on the faces of your children as they are give that all-important positive reinforcement. I mean, don’t we all love being recognized for the good we do?

We have been doing something similar to this for a couple years now – We do what we call a “Bead Jar” and the kids can put a bead in the jar when ever I catch them doing something good, or helpful or kind. We also added that they could inform on each other, so if a sibling did something nice, they could let a grown up know and another bead would go in the jar. When the jar was full, we would all go out for ice cream together.
