Maybe you’ve heard of a new little Disneyland experience opening this month…?
Okay, so it’s actually a huge 14 acre expansion called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and there’s more than just a little bit of excitement in the air.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Galaxy’s Edge is the biggest, single-themed expansion in Disneyland history. To help you visualize 14 acres, that’s about the size of Disneyland’s Critter Country, New Orleans Square and Adventureland combined. Since Galaxy’s Edge is situated on the planet Batuu, it makes sense that it’s such a large area for Disneyland guests to explore. This new land opens May 31, 2019 in Disneyland, and we have all the details from our friends at Get Away Today to help you make the most of your visit.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Reservations
For anyone visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge May 31 – June 23, 2019, no-cost reservations are required in addition to valid theme park admission. General reservations sold out within two hours on May 2, but there is one other way to procure one! If you book a Disneyland Resort Hotel stay May 31 – June 23, 2019, each registered guest will be issued a four-hour reservation to visit Galaxy’s Edge. So you not only get to experience the magic of the intricately themed Disneyland Resort Hotels, but you get a Star Wars reservation as well. Get Away Today still has availability for Disney’s Paradise Pier, Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, so you can book a room at one of the Resort hotels to see Galaxy’s Edge between its opening and June 23, 2019.

If you plan to wait and visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on or after June 24, 2019, you will only need valid theme park admission to do so. However, Disney will still be regulating the number of guests in the land during peak times. Instead of making a reservation, guests will need to use the Disneyland app to request a no-cost boarding pass to access Galaxy’s Edge. This will be in an effort to give everyone the best experience possible.
Requesting the boarding pass puts the guest in a virtual queue, allowing them to still enjoy other parts of Disneyland while awaiting their designated entry time for Galaxy’s Edge. In order to request a boarding pass via the Disneyland app, guests will need to physically be in the Resort.
Guests who have smartphones will receive a notification via the Disneyland app regarding their Galaxy’s Edge entry time so they won’t miss out. After that notification is issued, guests will have two hours to respond and show up at Galaxy’s Edge. But, once guests enter Galaxy’s Edge, they will not have a time limit for their visit. If you don’t have a smartphone, you can request a boarding pass from a physical kiosk and receive a paper boarding pass with an entry time.
A good tip to keep in mind is that early-morning entry to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge may not be regulated. This means that you can check the Disneyland app and see what the crowd situation is like. If crowds are small enough, no boarding pass will be required to get into Galaxy’s Edge. The same may be applicable in the evenings; so be sure to check the Disneyland app to know whether or not you’ll need a boarding pass at the time you want to visit Galaxy’s Edge. If you leave the land at any time, you will have to request another boarding pass to reenter, so plan accordingly.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Attractions
Now that you know how to get into Galaxy’s Edge, we should probably let you know what’s in it! Since it’s set on the new planet of Batuu, there will be a lot of foreign experiences, from apparel to souvenirs and food.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Rides
For its initial opening this month, one of two rides will be up and running in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Millennium Falcon – Smuggler’s Run will take up to six guests on the ride of their lives. With six different roles to play on the galaxy’s fastest ship, you and five friends will have the option of experiencing the ride from various points of view. Ride Millennium Falcon as a gunner, a pilot or an engineer and help on a high-stakes smuggling mission.

Disney has teased that later in 2019 a second Galaxy’s Edge ride will be open, showcasing never-before-seen technology and thrills in Disneyland. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be an immersive experience that is rumored to be like four rides in one. When we have more info from our travel partners we’ll be sure to update you!
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Merchandise
Galaxy’s Edge is set up as a trading hub on Batuu. As a result, there will be numerous outposts with unique merchandise and experiences. Here’s a look at some of the highly anticipated outposts you’ll find in Galaxy’s Edge:
Savi’s Workshop – In this outpost you’ll be able to make your own lightsaber to take home. It will have authentic elements such as kyber crystals. This is a great way to not only purchase a souvenir, but to have a hands-on experience as well.

Droid Depot – This will be another souvenir experience in Galaxy’s Edge. You’ll be able to make your own droid sidekick that will interact with elements of Galaxy’s Edge and then go home with you.
Toydarian Toymaker – Here, quirky toys and collectables made by Zabaka the toymaker will be available for purchase.
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities – Rare collectibles sourced from all over the galaxy will be on display at this outpost. You’ll find items such as kyber crystals, jewelry and artifacts.
Jewels of Bith – This outpost is an accessories shop so you can leave Galaxy’s Edge in jewels that the locals sport.
Creature Stall – As if Galaxy’s Edge couldn’t get more exciting, there will be a creature stall where you can purchase a little pet to bring home. But don’t expect to find cute mice, ducks or dogs here.
Black Spire Outfitters – If you don’t want to stand out in Galaxy’s Edge, browse this outpost for apparel that will help you blend in.
First Order Cargo & Resistance Supply – Show your support for either the First Order or The Resistance by purchasing apparel, supplies and more at one of these two outposts.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Dining
Remember, Galaxy’s Edge is on a different planet than the rest of Disneyland, so you can expect the food to be out-of-this world and authentic to the Star Wars franchise. That doesn’t mean it won’t be delicious, though! You’ll find family-friendly dining, quick-service vendors and even Coke products in Galaxy’s Edge.
Oga’s Cantina – A favorite spot for locals and visitors alike, Oga’s Cantina offers a family-friendly dining atmosphere and a DJ.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Play Disney Parks App
One last tip for making the most of your visit to Galaxy’s Edge: download the Play Disney Parks app. The app will give you the tools you need to interact with the land, helping you translate foreign languages, intercept intergalactic messages and possibly locate hidden cargo.
