Before I start this project tutorial I have a deep thought…
How come every time you finish a ton of home projects you find out you are M.O.V.E.ing?
My family and I will be headed down to Utah this week. U-Haul and all!
So I kinda guess it would be appropriate to do a Honk.Beep.Toot.Vroom. post:)
Vinyl Decoration
Here is the Free DingBat – Fantastique Cars
Ding bats are a picture font. They are used just like a font. Press a letter and up pops a picture.
The font for Toot! Vroom! Honk! Beep! is Big Fish
I know we’ve done a bunch of vinyl posts this last week. It’s because something really cool is happening this week, so make sure you are on our email list. We will send the info later this afternoon:)
I wanted to take some pictures of how I used vinyl for decoration in my home so I can do it to the next house! Oh, I am going to miss this house…
Okay this is totally off subject, but I hate moving. It’s not the actual moving of ‘things’ part, it’s leaving the ‘family of friends’ that is crappy. I am going to miss them. We don’t have any family here in Idaho so they have become family.
I guess this should be the part where I say I am glad we have computers, internet, phones so we can still talk, but really it’s not the same as going to your kid’s favorite water park and the kids squealing in delight as you and your friends talk, laugh and eat good snow cones…I am being so ungrateful, but hey it’s my pity party so please join in!
Let me get back to the subject at hand:
This is my little guy’s room. I wish I had a before picture to show you, but I don’t so you’ll just have to imagine it. Plain tan walls with nothing on them.
I wanted a fun border with color and cars. No wall paper for me. So how about some vinyl.
I cut 2 cars out of blue of vinyl.
I cut the same 2 vehicles out of red vinyl.
I then started swapping the red and blue pieces to create a colorful car.
This helped cut down on the vinyl being used.
I did the same with this bus/truck thing, but I cut one on brown, tan, and red. Swapped them out and then had 3 finished colorful vehicles!
Toot! Honk! Beep! and Vroom! were used between the cars. On the blue wall, the vinyl is white and on the tan wall, the vinyl is dark blue.
The canvas on the wall is from Emily. She’s got talent!
She can make pictures with…paint and a paint brush…wow…no vinyl! Thanks Emily!
Missy took the beautiful pictures of my baby the day we got home from the hospital {she’s a good friend}.
We couldn’t find frames to match the colors or find the size we wanted.
So…my husband surprised me. He made these frames out of molding. He’s a good man…I got lucky. Thanks Jared!!!
How about another deep thought? A house is sticks and paint. A home is a house with a family. Here’s to making our new house a home, decorating it and finding out where the local water park is located!
Oh, and if you are from Utah and see a lady with a camera and 4 kids walking around looking ‘lost’…it’s probably me. Watch out, I may just do a HowDoesShe? on you!
One last deep thought…I am super excited for all the fry sauce, mountains, new adventures, skiing, wonderful family, and iKea that is down in Utah!
Okay, I’m really not done…I am really glad I started HowDoesShe with Shelley and Missy. We are going to keep going strong and find and create wonderful things to share. I couldn’t have asked for better friends to start a blog with! This is where I am going to truthfully say that I really am glad for technology so we can keep this going:) I love these girls. We have a lot of fun together!
…and thanks Shelley and Missy for pulling my slack this week. I am sure it will take at least a week for me to find my computer.
PS
We recommend the Silhouette for a craft cutter

Speaking from experience, vinyl is so much easier to take off of a wall than wallpaper border! This is such a cute way to decorate a kid’s room, and it’s relatively easy to take off when it’s time to update!

Alison, you made me cry this morning. Your writing was just like you were sitting with me talking over a cup of coffee. My heart hurt for you…But I know you are needing to be in Utah and meet other women that really need you in their lives, God is putting you there for a reason. This is just going to add more great friends in your life.
Look at this way too…look at how much FUN you will have when you and your kids see the friends in Idaho!
Please know that you have a lot of friends that will be beside you in this move, it may not be in physical form, but in spirit.
Keep looking up!

Love the vinyl cut-outs. I have a Cricut and vinyl, but how you transfer the images (dingbats) to the Cricut without a cartridge?
Emily N. says
Question for you Alison…On these dingbats the Silhouette wants to cut 2 lines for every line drawn. Do you know what I mean? Is there someway to make it just cut the bold line as 1 line instead of cutting both sides of the lines? Or did you just let it it all and then not weed every piece out? I want to use some dingbats with my silhouette but it seems it will be cutting way too many lines. does that make any sense?
Alison says
I think I know what you are talking about…
I just left it and didn’t weed out as much. If it’s driving you crazy, call Silhouette. I think there might we a way to ‘weld’ it or something, but I just wanted to keep it simple. I work better that way:)
Let me know if that helps.
Alan Riley@ baby bedding sets says
You’re very talented – I’m envious. I haven’t got an artistic streak in me so there’s no way I could cut out the cute cars and shapes you have managed to create. I’ll have to stick with commercially available decals. Not that that’s bad – it’s so much easier to decorate with decals than it is to paint a room!
Anndee says
Great idea! I think I’ll be doing the same thing in Gecko’s!
