If you have access to one of these bad boys then you can do just about all of the 2×4 crafts ideas.
For those of you who don’t…let me introduce you to yet another tool to give you power. Really it’s just a miter tool, but it’s considered a power tool so I have to put the word power in there somehow so we can feel like we are empowering something right??
I think this tool is actually one of the easiest power tools to use. You squeeze a button and it rotates the blade {{really fast}}. So it cuts your wood really fast! The miter saw is great to cut straight lines. I know they have fancy ones that tilt, extend, laser a line, but this is what I have. It’s a basic model and it works perfect.
I put the other board as my measurement guide. Remember how I can’t ever find my tape measure? Ya still can’t find one of the six that disappeared quickly after my kids saw me bring them home!
So hold on tight as you see the blade cut…exciting right?!??????? ? ?
Notice how I don’t have my fingers in the way of the blade. Fingers near sharp objects spinning fast are not a good thing and never will be. AND just so you know, I am wearing my slippers. They are dedicated to the garage so I don’t track saw dust into the house. I didn’t forget my head gear – it is in place (eye goggles and ear muffs)!
After I cut the first cut, I used what I had cut to measure the second, third, and fourth cut. I wanted them all the same size.
I am making the chore chart if you are wondering what blasted thing I was concocting {{Missy is that a word?}}. Remember she is our English Pro so if anything is misspelled or not grammatically correct…it’s her fault!
All fingers are intact and I am ready to go! Really the miter saw is a great tool. If you are considering getting your first major power tool, this would be the one!
I need to find a power tool company to do a giveaway…long live giveaways!!!

Thank you SO much for posting this. I have been wanting to know what great tool to buy as a beginner for wood projects. There are so many awesome things you can make with wood and there are awesome blogs that teach you how to do it. So thank you for posting this. I’m now on the hunt for a miter saw 🙂

Love the Miter saw! I was mad when my hubby bought ours, but then a few years later, when I started to make wood crafts. It became mine!
Then the next year for Christmas he bought me band saw. LOVE!
I really could not live with out both of them!
Sometimes they just gather dust, but it MY dust!
I just throw a cover over them and just smile!
Great investment!!!

Thank you so much for this. I just said two weeks ago that I wanted to learn to cut wood and my husband just laughed at me. This is just amazing how I wanted to learn and here it is. Thanks again.

Thanks to your site, and suggestion, I now have a miter saw! Woohoo!!!!!!!! I just made my first project with it (from your site 🙂 ) the other day. I’m really excited about what I can do with it. My husband said he didn’t know if he should feel a little less manly when I had power tools on my Christmas list (I also got a power drill! ), and he doesn’t own any at all (nor is requesting them either). Thank you for a great site!

Thanks for sharing your tips. I agree with you that miter saw is the easiest power tools to use and the best way to use is make a straight cut. One thing, I don’t see you wear any protection equipment while using the tool. Be careful.
