Anyone traveling for Thanksgiving or Christmas break? Road trips can make the greatest memories but there are those moments where we all want to scream for it to be over. Here are some of our favorite items to help pass the time and actually make it fun! Some of these get the whole family interacting in a positive way and some of these items are for those times when Mom or Dad need it quiet.
The Car Seat Tray
This thing is up first because it is a must have for toddlers (and even my 5 year old). Now the crayons or cars or small toys will not roll off onto the ground. This was especially helpful when I was the only adult in the car and could not grab something for them. Everything is at their finger tips!
Memory Board
This awesome toy has lots of double sided inserts to keep them entertained for a long time. You simply lift the blue square doors that are tightly tied down to reveal the picture underneath. It would be great for the kids that are squished together in the back seat to play or even for just one child. This is definitely a winner!
Back Seat Bingo
Classic family entertainment for the whole car! Slide the red sleeves back and forth and you have a winner!
Reusable Sticker Pads
Melissa and Doug reusable sticker pads are always well loved inside the home or inside the car. There are so many different themes to choose from and they are all wonderful! I am not a huge fan of actual stickers so this is a fabulous replacement and Helllooooo….. they can be used a hundred (or more) times! …and they wont leave residue on your windows.
Brain Teaser Puzzles
For the older kiddos who need some brain teasers along the way these puzzles are awesome! Take them apart and rebuild them! They can have races to see who can build them the fastest or simply try and beat their own time – these puzzles never get old.
Trip Talk Box of Questions
Lets get the whole family involved again! These questions are memorable and sure to pass the time. Practicing passive communication is a great way for kids to feel bonded and help them interact among one another. These questions will get everyone chatting and laughing.
Spot it! (For the Road)
For everyone who loves the many different Spot It! games, you are sure to love the road trip version. I especially love this because sometimes my kid forgets that its ok to not always be totally entertained and that we can actually just sit and look out the window.
Mad Libs
Yesssss! A classic road trip favorite! Grab a few of these and everyone will be laughing. Its also a great way to practice nouns and verbs!
Water Wows
You have heard it from us before but its worth repeating because these things are a great, mess free, way of coloring. Simply fill the little pen with water and while the child colors or traces letters, the sponge tip will help the colors magically appear.
…. and because everything is better with Frozen characters on it
….the kids will appreciate it. I promise.
