Hello there! My name is Rachel Sayumi Porter, and I blog over at Rachel Sayumi, a fashion and lifestyle blog.
I am so excited to be a part of the How Does She team as a fashion and style contributor! Nice to meet you 🙂 When it comes to shopping for clothes to add to my wardrobe, I like to focus on pieces that are simple, versatile, and comfy. Currently, I’m working a 9-5 day job, so wearing outfits that I don’t have to tug at or adjust every other hour is important to me. At the same time, I also want to feel good about the outfit I’m wearing!
I love taking “trends” and making them my own.
One trend I’ve seen lately is wearing a duster over an outfit. What is a duster? Don’t worry, I asked the same thing when I first heard about it! It is a type of cardigan. Cardigans that hit below the knee are considered dusters. I love that the long length adds a posh, put together vibe on the whole look- as opposed to a cardigan that hits you at the hips.
Today I am styling this gorgeous duster in two ways – casual and dressy. The soft olive color makes it easy to style with several pieces in my closet!
I absolutely love this casual look.
All I’m wearing is a simple white tee, black jeans, and a skinny scarf. I’ve seen plenty of paparazzi photos of celebrities walking around in jeans, a tee, heels, and a duster. It really elevates that casual look into a more chic outfit.

Wearing a dress that is shorter than the duster is also a fun look. I love the dimension it creates. Since this duster is a solid color, I opted for a striped dress to create some contrast in the outfit. I completed the look with my favorite pair of heels, and there you go! A fun look you can wear whether you’re going out with you guy or your gals.

So, what do you think of the duster trend? Tried it? Want to try it? I’d love to see your outfits, feel free to leave a link to your photo in the comments! Happy dusting! 😉
