I was SO excited when I found out about VidAngel. I had to tell you about it because it really offers a lot of new options for movie watching! I absolutely LOVE this new family movie night option. It’s been fantastic in our home.
(Before I tell you all about how it works, check this out…You can watch ALL the Star Wars movies…EVEN the brand new one, The Force Awakens! RIGHT NOW!
VidAngel has ALL Star Wars movies for $1!
Before The Force Awakens came out, I wanted to have a movie marathon to catch up on all the old ones with my kids, but nobody was renting them and I didn’t want to buy them. My library had 100’s of holds on them. Then I found them on VidAngel – for $1! We watched them all, it was fantastic.
You can rent, The Force Awakens, RIGHT NOW!!
Not into Star Wars?
No worries – they get all the popular new releases before all the typical rental places.
Not only does VidAngel offer streamed movies for only $1, they can be EDITED!!! You can purchase it and own it – or rent it for a buck! No more running to Redbox late at night only to find the movie you want is checked out, or forgetting to return and owing enough money to OWN the DVD (not that I EVER do that…cough cough)!
How does it work? (No sweat. It’s pretty simple)
First off, let’s talk editing.
This is what makes VidAngel really unique in my opinion. You can pick a movie, and choose what to have edited out. This is totally legal because they don’t change the original content. (Some of you might remember other companies like CleanFlix who got shut down for changing original content).
VidAngel gives YOU the power to choose what you want or don’t want to see. With VidAngel you are simply skipping and muting swearing, nudity, and violence. Or you don’t have to. It really allows you to cater to every person in your house. I love this option, because I personally don’t like to see or hear some things in movies…..but I want to see the movie!
NOW, how does the “renting” process work?
To make this editing legal, you have to actually OWN the movie. To make this as affordable and user-friendly as possible, you have an instant “Sell-Back” option for VidAngel buy the movie back from you and put the credit into your VidAngel account. So as long as you have an account, you have close to a $20.00 credit always in there (you can get it back at any time).
Simply put,
- BUY THE MOVIE – Pay the retail price of $20. (initial credit card payment)
- WATCH FOR $1.00 per day ($2.00 for HD movies) is deducted from the $20 credit.
- SELL THE MOVIE – When finished, “Sell it Back” for $19.00 of instant credit to your VidAngel account for your next purchase. OR, you can choose to keep the video for $20. (You can also set this up to be automatic.)
Confused?
Hope not, but here is a 15 second video that helps explain.

(If you have more questions or need clarification, they also have a great “Help” section that answers every question you might have!)
You can stream your VidAngel rentals to many devices including:
- Roku
- Apple TV
- iPhone/iPad
- Your Computer/Laptop
- Android Device
- Chromecast
We use the Amazon Fire Stick in our house. I’ve heard good things about Roku sticks too.
If at any time you don’t like or don’t use VidAngel, you can contact them to cancel, and they will cash in your credit. SO, no need to worry!
In terms of price, this really is the cheapest way to rent. Redbox prices are going up daily it seems, and let’s be honest? Who REALLY returns the movie within 24 hours? NOT ME. sadly. Movie rentals on satellite services (Dish, Direct etc) are SO pricey too. PLUS, because you are technically purchasing and selling back these movies, you’re going to have the new movies before Redbox or NetFlix!
SO, how do you get started?
