My husband often says that I throw a party for 95% for myself, and 5% for my kids. Well,…he’s almost right! It’s more like 90/10. 😉 I love all the details in themed birthday decor. He once asked, “Are our kids even going to remember?” No problem here! I’ll MAKE SURE they remember! I always turn their parties into a special ‘Birthday Book’ so they can be reminded of the effort I went to when they were little. {You can make a free Classic photo book at Picaboo through March 31, 2010.} They’d better love me,…And they better know I love them. 😉
‘Take Me out to the Ball Game’ – Birthday Decor
‘Balls’ were basically all my little man talked about for the majority of his 2nd year of life. We decided there wasn’t a better theme for his second Birthday than ‘Take me Out to the Ball Game’.
The Invite… The Cake…CrackerJacks…Favors…Hotdogs…Birthday Decor…
Birthday Boy…
{I was 6 weeks postpartum with my twins, so my talented mother-in-law helped me pull all the fun details of this party together}
I found most of my supplies at Zurchers Party Store, but even easier you can find them online. Find the Plastic Hot Dog Holders here from Amazon and here is a link to the Popcorn Boxes. Great prices too,…I think I paid more at Zurchers! I made my cake, but it was easy! Promise! Get the Wilton Sports Ball Pan Set. {They even have a Mini Ball Pan Set too! Cute! Perfect for a ‘smash cake’?} The pan comes with directions for 5 different ‘ball themed cakes’. I just piped white frosting stars all over the baked ball and added the red stitching for the finishing touch. {I used the same method for the cupcakes}. You don’t need to be a fancy baker to make this cake. It looks impressive though huh!? 😉 Tricked ya! 😉
I can’t believe this was almost a year ago! I’ve got another party to plan {whew}! 🙂 I love adding to my birthday decor idea file. Check back for more ‘REAL’ HowDoesShe parties coming up soon. We can’t wait to share them. Have you thrown any fun Birthday parties or have any Birthday Decor Ideas? We’d love to see them!
(We are participating in SkipToMyLou’s Made by you Monday) Thanks Cindy and Tip Junkie’s Tip Tuesday (Thanks Laurie).

I have a 5 yr old girl and she plays T-ball. Dont let her gender stop her from doing whatever she wants to do. My little angel loves the game and I am happy as long as she is happy!

Hi Shelly, I am planning for my son’s birthday with this concept. Could you tell me wht u put in those plastic wrap bags that you prepared. Also where did u get that ball concept plastic wrap?
Shelley says
All the goodies inside were just from the party favor cheapy aisle. Baseball candy, baseball bouncy balls,… stuff like that. I also found the plastic favor bags there. 🙂 Hope that helps.

Oh I love this so much! I have two boys, and generally once they’re past two, I never get to pick the theme! I’m about due with my 3rd and so HOPEFULLY we will get to use these fantastic ideas — at LEAST once! 🙂
Charity says
Too adorable! I’m going to bookmark this for my son’s 8th!
Katy says
I’ll have to bookmark this for a friend – she’s doing a sports theme for her son. As for me – I’m doing a Mickey birthday for my 4 year old in a few weeks, then his little brother will have a Monkey 1st Birthday (I actually did this party for my first son’s 2nd party, but all the people at that party have since moved away, so it will be a brand new party! Plus, I loved the monkey cake (from Martha Stewart) that we made!)
And yes – the party is 99% for me because I LOVE planning all the little details! I’m even already thinking of my son’s 5th party! Yikes! (a Spaceship/Rocket theme!)
If my Mickey Cupcakes turn out as cute as I hope, I’ll send a picture!

Really fun looking party, love all the red, white, and blue! My Dad is a huge baseball fan would love this, adapted for a 70 year old of course:) He only has a very girly granddaughter so I don’t think we could pull this off for her.

I love all of this. I’m planning my son’s 4th birthday and I started about 3 months ago, but I can’t find those cute little star bowls anywhere, and I’d love to have them for the hotdog toppings. Where did you get them?! I have posted some of the ball stuff I have done on my webpage. His party is Saturday and I’ll be sure to share pictures afterward! Thanks for posting!

Would you mind sharing the template for the invite?

Seems like its very cost effective to have this bday as well..
Childrens Birthdays in Milwaukee says
Very creative. I’m always looking for new and creative ideas for people. It seems that a lot of people get caught in a bit of a rut as far as themes and decoration goes. Stuff like this can really help one get ‘on the ball’ so to speak.
Tracy says
What games did you have for the kids to play or do you recommend any to go with this theme for 2 year olds and younger.
Shelley says
Yikes. I’m not even sure what we played. They were so little. Maybe a t-ball game would be fun. Just hitting the ball of the T? Let me know what you decided to do. I’d love to know. 🙂
smelch says
Any chance you would sell the invite template?
Shelley says
If I could find it!!! Stay tuned… 😉
Mary says
