s p a r k l e s !
You really can never have too many if you ask me and I am sure my sister would agree. She figures out how to sparkle just about everything! She is answering our HowDoesShe? question today…How Does She sparkle…well, just about anything? I am SO excited to finally feature someone in my family (what took me so long?:)
Let me introduce you to my sister, Stacy. I took these pictures of her when I flew out to help after she had twins, as if she needed it, but it was fun to hang out and take a million pics of her new babies – well, sorta new:)
She has 6 kids and is one aMaAzInG mom! I am constantly amazed at all she is able to accomplish in one day! I get tired just thinking about it! With all that goes on in her life with 6 kids (the youngest being twins and toddlers into eVeRyThInG) – she always finds time and energy to think about other people. I am lucky to be on that receiving end more often than I deserve.
This is what she gave my daughter for her birthday…
I know – a d o r a b l e ! People stop me all the time to ask where I got them or how I made them. I just agree with the compliments and tell them her aunt made them:)
My little girl loves the disco they create in the car! When the sun hits them, it is time to dance in the rainbows!
(These Converse came glittery all over and then she sparkled the toe. Here is an example of the shoe before.)
Before I teach you how to make these, let me share a bit more about Stacy…
Five Fun Facts:
Favorite flower is a gerber daisy
Loves antiquing – she is the ultimate sales shopper
Likes to run – 6 marathons to date with a goal to qualify for Boston
Has held a sting ray in the Cayman Islands
Favorite place on earth is the beach

“I would go meet all my favorite people from history and just hang out in all the different eras for fun. I would also buy a few items to add to my vintage collection!”
Okay, on with the tutorial!
Stacy taught me how to make these when I saw her over Thanksgiving. She helped me and my other sister to sparkle our new Converse shoes. We all bought the same shoes on a different girl’s trip and decided they could use some s p a r k l e s! I am sure you could do this with any shoe, but Converse shoes lend themselves perfectly for sparkling with that big white toe…
Here is a shot of the crystals. She uses only the Swarovski crystals as they sparkle the most! This picture doesn’t show it, but believe me…they s p a r k l e!!!
1. You want to scuff up the toe so the glue will adhere better. My niece was a pro ‘scuffer’!
2. With your E600 glue, spread some with your finger in a small area starting on one side.
3. Then using your tweezers, stick the sparkles on one by one in whatever pattern you want.
4. Let dry
5. DONE!
It was night when we made these so I wanted to wait until the next day to get pictures, then I forgot! But luck was on my side…LUCKILY my mom reminded me right before I was leaving and LUCKILY my sister and I were both wearing our NEW shoes and LUCKILY my dad had his camera handy. Whew! Thanks DAD!
My favorite part is the one sparkle on the back in the star…
This is what Stacy sent home with me for an early birthday present…
Sparkles make everything cuter!

is her favorite place to buy all her supplies, because they have the best prices AND free shipping – no matter what you buy!!! They have the crystals and the glue.
These are the crystals she used…
For the pink Converse crystals: Swarovski 2028 SS16 XILION Rose Flatback Crystal AB
For the brown Converse crystals: Swarovski 2028 SS16 XILION Rose Flatback Crystal
For the salt and pepper shakers: Swarovski 2028 SS20 XILION Rose Flatback Crystal
You can choose whatever color and size you want. She has found that when you put them on a curved surface like the toe of a shoe, the smaller ones stay on a little better.
The glues she used were:
for the shoes: e6000
for the salt and pepper shakers: GS Hypo Cement
And one more pic just for fun…

Well, I am pretty sure I would look a little funny in them, but my girls will love them. On top of that, I think I have even mastered the art of gluing so I should be able to help out. My wife is the really crafty one. Thanks for the wonderfully bright idea. On a side note, we thought we had our hands full with tree little ones. Your sister Rocks!

Love the S&P shakers. The sparkles remind me of my jr. high days years ago decorating with the “bedazzler”.
How fun that you got to sparkle something together with your sisters.

I have seen these Swarovski-glitzed tennis shoes, and when the sun hits them, WHOA! Blinding! They are Be-dazzling and Bea-utiful! As are the girls featured in this post 🙂 Thanks for sharing another bright idea!

Okay, these are adorable. I usually don’t wear sneakers, but now I am tempted to go get a pair!!!! Hum,..how do you think a little bling would look on my stilletos?! 😉
Margot says
Good post to prove none of us can ever have too much bling! Love the sneakers, love the s & p shakers too! What an adorable family.
Jodi says
Ooooooh, I just purchased a knock-off looking pair of “keds” at Old Navy. I can totally do that to the toe of the sneaker. My 2 1/2 year old will love how sparkly her kicks are!

Laura Aldridge says
Hi,
Love the sneakers what a great idea. The little girls did you put the pink stones all over the shoe or did they come that way? I know you did the toe but wasn’t sure about rest of shoe.
Missy says
The sparkles were already there (aren’t they cute?) – I went back and added a link in the post to get them from Amazon. They were $30.00 with free shipping when I just checked.
Jodie says

Cute shoes, I love them!! Too bad i have 3 boys, but some for me will be nice, lol. Love those great pics of your sister!! I have twin boys that are 2 now and a 10week old boy at home its crazy, Twins are so fun though!!
Missy says
TWINS! Shelley has twin girls as well. Between watching her and my sister…I just don’t know how you all do it! They both say they love having twins as well, so there must be something great to it:)
Norma V. says
I plan on doing this to my daughters shoes it’s so cute. How strong is the glue? they won’t come off easily will they?
Missy says
None of my daughter’s have come off (Stacy is a pro at making them), but on the ones I made, two have popped off – but I wear them ALL the time and have had them since Thanksgiving. I think I just didn’t get enough glue on those couple. Just buy a few extra crystals and when one pops off, you can just glue another one in its’ place:)

Leigh says
How many do you think you used per pair? Trying to decide how many crystals to order?!!
THANKS
Missy says
I just counted and there were 60 on the pink toddler shoe on each shoe so about 120 per pair. The toe is bigger on the adult shoe so it would take more.
Leigh says
THANKS!! Can’t wait to try it!
Charisse says
Will it stick on the fabric of the shoe? you know to put a little more bling, like flowers etc? there are shoes out there that have them every where and i cant afford them but my daughter loves them. so when i saw this idea i thought maybe.:) i could surprise her with ones we create!
Missy says
I haven’t tried it? The glue she used was for rubber so I don’t think it would work with that glue but maybe there is a glue out there for fabric that would hold? I know they have those heat and bond ones but I am not sure how well they hold?
Liz R. says
Too darn cute!! These are a must make for my daughter and birthday presents for her friends!!! Thanks so much for sharing!
Julie says
I am so– going to order my bling asap! I have the glue already for scrappin’! Thx for sharing! They look super cute on flip flips too! Old Navy ones work perfect!

Please read the instructions on the e600 label and don’t you your bare finger to smear the glue. There are tools that are safer for you and your children to use.
