Living in a very small rental home, I wasn’t thrilled about the space I would be working with for my new baby boy’s nursery. All of my Pinterest nurseries were definitely bigger,… with glass french doors, massive windows, and approximately 2-3 hanging chandeliers. Oh, you pinned that nursery too?! 😉 Well, my 10’x10′ box was what I was given to work with, and I was determined to make the most of it. With 4 easy design tips, and some gorgeous baby bedding, we are going to make this space look, and feel, bigger. Let’s take a look at the potential space.Nope. Definitely not the large space I pinned.

4 Easy Design Tips to make a small space appear bigger
1. Raise curtain rods to give the illusion of high ceilings. This draws they eye upward instead of cutting off the line of sight right above the window.
2. Hang drapes from a curtain rod wider than the actual window. When opened just to the point where the window stops, it appears the window keeps going behind. Tricky, tricky.
3. Keep it simple. No need for nick-nacks or clutter. This will only overwhelm the small space.
4. Repeat colors and patterns. Now I don’t mean all matchy matchy. Pull from different colors and patterns to keep the eye traveling around the room. This creates a unique, yet unified, look.

I created a custom bunting banner, with fabric ordered directly from Carousel Designs to match the room perfectly. It ties everything together. Tutorial to come!
Is anyone else swooning over this gorgeous bedding? Let’s talk about it.Yes. It’s gorgeous. And the quality is top notch.
While pinning my little heart out, I kept noticing that most of my baby bedding inspiration was coming from one place: Carousel Designs. Have you discovered this website yet? They are hands down, one of the best companies I have ever worked with.
My favorite part about Carousel Designs was the fact that I could design my own bedding. And it was EASY! I liked the basic look of the Navy Waves crib bedding set, but wanted to make the overall look a bit more masculine. I ordered a few FREE fabric samples and created a custom look. With their easy Nursery Designer, I changed the inside of the bumper to dark navy, added navy bumper ties, and designed the drapes to have solid navy panels with accent fabric on bottom. In less than 5 minutes, it was exactly what I had in mind for the space. Go and play around with the nursery designer too, you’ll be hooked.
Missy also hopped on the Nursery Designer and ordered a couple of gorgeous things for her baby girl’s bedroom. Oh the girly details!! I’m loving the custom drapes and the frilly ruffled bedskirt.
During the process of working with them, we fell in love with the company too. It’s always fabulous to find a great product, but when you find a great company too, you’ve found a rare gem indeed. They were so customer oriented and bent over backwards to exceed my expectations. HowDoesShe truly loves supporting businesses like this. Go ahead and add them to your short list for baby bedding. You won’t regret it.
Does anyone else enjoy putting together a baby’s room as much as I do? Nurseries are truly the sweetest escape from the world. A little peace of heaven to enjoy while singing, rocking, and gushing over a perfect baby. Time stand still, they grow too fast.

Thanks so much for the inspiration! I am pregnant with number 4 (a boy!), my other 3 are all girls so I had absolutely no idea how to put together a nursery in our tiny 4th bedroom and avoid the cliqued jungle animals or monsters (WT?).
Although I am from Australia and probably not able to access many of the products you’ve used, it has given me some excellent ideas. Thanks again!
