Hi, I’m Katie!
In many regards, I’m a behind-the-scenes kind of person. My job as the HowDoesShe secretary isn’t necessarily in the limelight, which is just how I like it. I love answering emails, helping our readers with any needs they may have, and keeping things clean and organized on the back end.
When I’m not working for HowDoesShe, I’m helping my husband run his own video business and running a household of five kids. Most of what I do is behind-the-scenes kind of work that gets little or even no recognition. You probably feel the same way most days. Running kids to Cub Scouts, piano lessons, and chess club. Writing checks for such Scouts, piano lessons, and chess club. Chasing down “lost” homework, making after-school snacks, and scrubbing toilets that otherwise would start growing vegetation. Being a mom can be a pretty thankless job.
That’s why I’m finally doing something for myself.
Why It’s Different This Time
Life happens while you are busy taking care of other people. For me, that meant seeing my pant size creeping higher and higher. After getting pregnant with and giving birth to five beautiful babies (including twins!), I was heavier than I cared to be. I had these special little people to take care of, but hardly the energy to do it.
Fighting my own weight has been a constant struggle. I’ve tried trendy diet after trendy diet, but nothing has ever actually worked. This time is different. This year I’m turning 40 (which is kinda a big deal) and I also did something that I never thought I’d do—I signed up to run a 1/2 marathon. That’s 13.1 miles…of running. All in one sitting…I mean standing. This time, I’m turning to Jenny Craig to help me get this weight off once and for all.
There are three big reasons the Jenny Craig program appealed to me. First, you get your own personal consultant who touch bases with you either in person, via video chat, or by phone. They’re the coach in your corner that give you pep talks and keeps you going through the ups and downs of your personal weight loss journey. And I love how everything at Jenny Craig is personal.
Jenny Craig is a program, not a diet, because they offer structure and support to people like me who have tried the diet thing without success. They help you lose weight, but also teach you how to keep it off. The personal consultants know their stuff because many of them were Jenny Craig members themselves! That kind of empathy is important to me.
My second reason for choosing Jenny Craig is the food. You get nutritionally-balanced meals shipped right to your door (or you can pick it up at your center if you see your consultant in person). There’s NO COUNTING or tracking needed! Jenny Craig provides you with food. You can choose from over 100 delicious entrees, desserts, and snacks developed by dietitians, nutritionists, and professional chefs so you know it’s delicious!
Lastly, and most importantly, I chose Jenny Craig because the results are real. Jenny Craig’s approach to weight loss is not a gimmick. Basically when you change how you eat and change how you behave, you set yourself up for life-long success. In fact, a recent study published in Annals of Internal Medicine identified Jenny Craig as one of the most effective weight loss programs based on evidence that its participants achieved greater weight loss at 12 months than any other control group. Jenny Craig members can expect to lose an average of 1-2 pounds per week.
If you’re interested, Jenny Craig offers three types of programs with very reasonable membership costs.
Join Me on My Journey!
I really hope you’ll join me on my three-month weight loss journey; I’ll be posting in April and then again in May with my results. Yes, I’m terrified. It’s scary to document something so personal on a public stage, especially when you’re a behind-the-scenes kind of gal. But you can’t accomplish much staying in your comfort zone. Fear turns into courage when it pushes you in the right direction.
I’m excited to dive into the Jenny Craig program and welcome your encouragement and kind words to keep me accountable. Here’s to turning 40, running 13.1 miles, and having the energy to keep up with a crazy family!
