Summer is in full swing around here! It’s hot, it’s sunny, and for a few more weeks we’ve got all the time in the world. We are making the most of these last weeks of summer with a lot of relaxation and a lot of fun!
This Healthier Strawberry Lemonade recipe has been getting a lot of love at our house lately too. It’s not summer without a cold glass of lemonade, ideally enjoyed outdoors, perhaps by a pool if you’re really lucky. I can’t help but cringe, however, when I think about just how much sugar is in every ice cold glass. Since we weren’t about to give up one of our favorite summer drinks, I came up with this healthier version.
It still has all the most important elements of our favorite lemonade, namely the lemons and the strawberries. Instead of relying on all the sugar in an ordinary recipe for lemonade, I cut back the sweetness just a bit and leaned a little more on the strawberries for flavor. In place of the sugar, I added agave nectar, though you could also use honey to sweeten it up too.
Best of all, this recipe is so much easier than most homemade lemonades! Instead of making simple syrups, and squeezing lemons, you just blend this all up. It’s really easy and it’s really tasty. You can have lemonade in less than 10 minutes, and when it’s hot outside, that’s my kind of recipe!
It’s not exactly like a cup of good ol’ country time lemonade. My kids, however, give it two thumbs up every time we make it, and that is a pretty solid endorsement.
It’s a little bit thicker than an ordinary juice, but it’s not quite a smoothie and it’s not like high pulp orange juice. It is just the right blend of strawberry and lemon, for a perfect contrast of sweet and tart. It may be healthier strawberry lemonade, but it’s no less tasty!
