If there is one thing we know about spring weather it is that we know nothing about spring weather.
In my city, it can go from being a cool morning, to a warm afternoon, to rain storms all in the matter of hours. Sometimes I will go to bed with clear skies and wake up with a fresh blanket of snow in the morning. Thanks, spring weather. It’s not easy dressing for spring. So, today I am here to help prep you for looking stylish all while being flexible with your outfit, all you need is a light jacket.
Please tell me you got the Miss Congenitally reference.
The most important thing you can do for spring weather is layer.
Start with a neutral canvas. For this look, it was dark wash jeans, a white top, and tan booties. That way you can add in whatever you need to make it what you need for the changing weather.
The key with the neutral canvas is making sure the shirt is something you would be okay wearing solo, also. You know how sometimes we put on a tee and thing, “No one will see this under my scarf, sweater, and jacket,” but then it either warms way up or you are stuck inside longer than you thought? Find a fun, fashion-forward top that you won’t have to worry about anyone ever seeing, because in Spring when you are peeling off and putting back on layers with every hour… I can promise someone is going to see it!
Once you have your blank canvas you can find items to layer.
For me, my go-to layering is a light jacket and a scarf, for character. Generally, I tend to go with a leopard scarf, but since I am praying daily for blue skies, green grass, and flowers on every corner, I changed it up this time to a great floral pattern. I am a firm believer in putting what you want out there for the universe.
I’m also loving this floral scarf with POMS!

And since it is sneaking into spring, I say make sure your jacket pops! Why keep everything at a muted green or brown when pastels and brights are inviting in that weather we love? Layering enables you to add a pop of color. Spring is ALL about the pops of colors. This coral colored jacket is the perfect pop. Functional AND pretty. I love finding statement pieces and this jacket is no exception. I wanted to make sure that my blank canvas had some pizzaz to it when the jacket was on. Plus, it invites a bit of my personality to the ensemble.
So there you have it, with a few layers you are ready for whatever this spring weather tosses you. You can keep it to the bare minimum with a fashion forward top and jeans. Or if the weather is being fickle, layer on a scarf for some color and a bright jacket to take you from sunny rays to windy days. When you layer for spring, you can conquer it all!
