**We teamed up with ShopStyle and Etsy on this sponsored post, but all opinions are our own! We love Etsy!**
I remember one of the first New Year’s Resolutions I ever made. I didn’t quite understand ALL a resolution entailed at 12 years old, but I was bound and determined to make and keep one! My resolution was to reach at least 2 books every month of the year and I DID IT!
Since then, those resolutions have become a bit more meaningful and honestly, sometimes more difficult. I just don’t have the free time I had as a 12-year-old girl (Obviously. I have 5 kids!). Nevertheless, I always desire to create them for my own personal development, and also so my kids can witness their MOM sticking to and working towards goals as well as the importance of doing so.
I always like to hear what other people are setting as their New Year’s Resolutions so I thought it might be fun to share a few of my own past resolutions, along with a few I’d love to tackle. We’ve teamed up with Etsy, who we love and shop frequently, to help you set some New Year’s Resolutions! Etsy is one of my favorite places to shop. Where else can you find SO many handmade and unique items in one place? I also love supporting all the small shops you can find there. We love supporting other small businesses!
1. Organize my time (and learn to say NO! more)
Time is precious and as a work from home mom of 5, I don’t have a ton of it. I run a tight ship and there is NO way I would even remember all my responsibilities or my kids’ schedules without being organized. I have to admit, I can not function without a paper planner. I love this one I found because it’s not only beautiful, it’s extremely functional.
The gold foil details and gold spiral are so eye catching. You can even have your name hand lettered on the front! It is helping me organize my time by requiring me to write things down. Because, let’s be honest, if it’s not in the planner, it doesn’t really happen.
Along with organizing my time, I’m learning to say “NO” more. I can’t be a million places and answer to a million people at once. Sometimes it’s necessary to say NO to the good things, so you have more energy and time to focus on the BEST things.
2. Keep a gratitude journal.
This is something which originated from my kids! Each night, at dinner, we would go around the table and talked about something we’re grateful for that day. Sometimes those things were BIG, but most of the time, they were just little, beautiful, and every day things.
I thought this would be a beautiful resolution to take on myself. Each night of the year, write in a journal, like this one, and keep track of all the blessings in your life – big or small! This would be such a treasure to reflect back on in years to come, and even hand on to your children when you’re not around any longer. Don’t you think?
3. Get active at least 3 times a week.
I have to be honest. I despise specific weight loss resolutions. I do; however, love to think of it as GETTING ACTIVE resolutions. It just sits better with me mentally. Whether it be yoga, weight lifting, hiking or just taking a walk with my kids, getting active is IMPORTANT physically and mentally. They say, if you have the right gear, you’ll find more motivation, so this tank top is a must have. I mean, Cardio IS hardio, don’t you think? I found TONS of clever active wear here. So many funny sayings to get you going!
4. Recite 3 positive affirmations each day.
I used to think affirmations were a little strange. Talking to yourself in the mirror? Then I had a child who started them after having some personal struggles. I began to see him LIGHT UP when he did them. I thought it would be an excellent thing for me to try too.
What’s better than saying affirmations? WEARING THEM. This would be a fun gift to yourself or even for a loved one to remind THEM of how you really see them! I found tons of different styles and sayings here. You can also find lots of wall art prints with motivating affirmations to hang on your wall I like to have one stuck to my bathroom mirror so I can see it as I get ready each day!
- 5. Learn a new skill or resurrect an old talent.
One thing I’ve REALLY struggle with in motherhood, is remembering who I am! What interests me? What talents do I have or could I develop? I have next to no alone time, and most of that alone time is spent cleaning or working. I would LOVE to learn a new skill. I’ve been working on Spanish (and by working on, I mean 5 minutes a day. Ha!) and I really want to learn to hand letter. Creating isn’t something that comes super easy to me, so I got this gorgeous kit to help teach me.
Don’t be afraid to try something totally out of your comfort zone this New Year. It all helps you to develop as a person!
- Allow myself “me” time to take care of myself.
Wait, what? ME TIME? What is that? It’s true; most of us are stretch too thin and even exhausted; but, as my mother said “You can’t draw from a well that’s dry.” Take time for yourself!
One of my favorite things to do is take a HOT bubble bath and spend a little time “getting pampered”. I may not be able to go to spa, but with so many bath and spa like products I can have delivered to my house, who needs the spa? I picked up these bath bombs and these homemade lip balms and they are both DIVINE.
The bath bombs smell like heaven and I love that they’re handmade too. Drop one in a bath and you have moisturized, sweet smelling skin. Not to mention, you smell amazing! Follow up with some deep moisturizing body butter like this one. Great to have on hand for my self-care resolution and they also make amazing gifts!
Setting New Year’s resolutions is a great way to start off the New Year – or any time! These are just a few ideas, but I’m curious. Do YOU set New Year’s goals? What are some of the best you’ve ever set? (And did you keep them!?) Etsy is a great source for all your 2019 resolutions. So many beautiful things to support you in your goals!
