LiftMaster – Don’t Chance It. Check It.

Two big things are happening this month: summer break and National Safety Month. This important safety issue concerns your garage door opener.
For more than 70 percent of homeowners, the garage is the main access point to the home. If you’re like my family, we are contantly in and out of the garage. From carpools to bike rides, basketball and tools – the garage is constantly being used by the whole family.
I can remember the days of old when we would pull up to the garage in our family car, and my dad would hop out and lift up the garage by hand – what a hassle! Enter the electric garage door opener. Push a button and the garage door goes up. Push it again, down it goes. With this luxury come some safety issues. I worry about kids and even pets getting injured or pinned when the electric garage door is closing. Some of the older garage openers do not have the safety features that recent ones have. A homeowner may not be able to see or hear it, but the garage door may not be operating properly or safely. In fact, one-in-15 garage doors lack the latest safety features or may not be operating safely.
One important thing I just learned is that garage door openers manufactured prior to 1993 were not equipped with photo eyes (that detect objects in the door’s path) or other standard safety features. This means the garage door opener will most likely only reverse AFTER making contact with the object, which unfortunately could be a child, person, or pet. A garage door opener can last a long time, so just because it’s working, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be concerned. Fortunately, it’s super easy to check your opener to make sure it’s up to date with the latest safety features.
LiftMaster developed the safety initiative, “Don’t Chance It. Check It.” Checking the garage door is easy with the 3-Step Safety Check. It literally takes only 5 minutes and is worth having some peace of mind. Just go here to learn the steps. Also, by going here, you can learn about LiftMaster’s Champions of Safety.
Also, I must say that we recently had a new garage door opener installed by LiftMaster with the photo eyes, and we are super happy knowing we have something that works great, and more importantly, keeps our family safe.
I took the @LiftMaster Garage Safety Month Challenge. Become a champion of safety by joining us and checking your garage door opener. Keep your loved ones safe! #ChampionsOfSafetly
