I know what you are all thinking…
A plate of yummy chocolate cookies is so much tastier than a basket of flowers and fruit.
But, sometimes it is fun to mix it up and do something a little different.
The fun thing about a healthy basket is you don’t have to do it all. Just pick one or two of your favorites and it will be a big hit.
I love the cute labels to write on from PICK YOUR PLUM.
HAND KNIT WASHCLOTH PATTERN
If you know how to knit, this is the easiest gift ever, and it will take you about an hour to make your neighbor fall in love with you.
I love getting little gifts that have big meaning. I know how to knit but I don’t have a lot of time these days. Every year my Aunt Ella knits me a washcloth and sends it to me in the mail. It means so much to me that she takes time out of her busy schedule to show me that I am special to her.
PATTERN
Step 1:Buy one skein of organic cotton or regular cotton yarn
Step 2:Use size 9 needles
Step 3:Cast on 20
Step 4:Knit for 5 inches or until you have a square shape
Step 5:Cast off
So easy and so sweet!
STATE DISH TOWEL
This is one of my favorite items to give a new neighbor or friend. You can pick out their favorite place to visit, the state they grew up in or the state they are moving to.
I love the vintage towels. You can find them here.
I found this Idaho towel at a cute Idaho store in Boise at the mall it was $6.oo. I bought one for me and my best friend who is from Idaho who now lives in Nevada.
FRUIT AND FLOWERS
I love to get fruit from local farmers market or my friends’ gardens. It tastes delicious and it is a nice break from all the sweets. Flowers just put me in a good mood.
Add some sparkling water or cider to make the basket complete.
Last, but not least, I always like to include a card telling our new neighbors what our favorite things are.
This is always a great way to say we care and we are here for you.
(Even if they don’t like sushi as much as I do.)
I have been so lucky to have such amazing neighbors. Even though we have moved a lot over the years, we are still in contact with a lot of them.
At one point, my girlfriend Marci and I never had to go to the grocery store because we could borrow anything from each other.

Ha – I just did a post yesterday on a ‘welcome neighbor’ gift basket… how ’bout that. Nice collection of goodies! You’re neighbor should be honored.

I love this gift basket idea! It’s given me some great ideas for a “Favorite Things” exchange I’m doing with old college roommates next weekend. I’m using your washcloth pattern to give to each of them! I love all your tips.

I’m looking for a Housewarming Gift for my granddaughter. I used to have the paper that went in it. It said things like ‘A loaf of bread so you won’t go hungry’, a candle was ‘so you’ll always have light in your life’, and spices would be ‘for the flavor of life’. Things like that. But of course I can’t remember. If anyone has that list, or any suggestions for what might go on the list, please e-mail me
