Fun Frugal Family Tradition #5 – Family Fondue
This is one family tradition I simply can not do without. Our Christmas family fondue night is anticipated, fun, memorable, and did I mention delicious?! I’m not talking about dipping a few strawberries in chocolate. I’m talking about a full out fondue feast! Meats, breads, cheeses, and of course dessert. Each member in our family is responsible for chosing a few different items of food to ‘dip’. We bring them together to make an incredible smorgasbord {yes Missy, I googled how to spell that word just for you}.
I assure you,…this family tradition is one that no one will let you ‘skip’ in years to come.
I prefer to use an Electric Fondue Pot vs the other types. Electric Fondue Pots keep the fondue the right temperature and consistency. They are a fun gift and good investment if you plan on fonduing in the future.
The most delicious cheese fondue recipe can be found HERE. I’m still trying to find the perfect chocolate fondue recipe. Any Suggestions? What do you like to dip?

I just found your site via Hogwash. Such great ideas!
I hosted a fondue party recently and used a Southern Living Mississippi Mud fondue recipe. It was delicious and super easy, only four or five ingredients. I’m pretty sure it came from their Nov 09 issue.

Great post!!! I have been to a fondue party ONCE and LOVED IT! I’ve since tried to always bring some sort of findue goodness to our New Years Eve party. I made a hot fudge that is super easy and way yummy – it’s runny when hot (thickens when it cools), and I considered doing this for chocolate fondue: http://www.fabulesslyfrugal.com/2009/11/microwave-hot-fudge-sauce-for-all-your.html
Thanks for the Cheese Fondue recipe – I’m going to give it a try!

LOVE doing fondue with my family! 🙂 We most often do chocolate fondue and dip things like chunks of pound cake, pretzel sticks, pretzel sticks with a marshmallow on the end, bananas (which get kinda messy), strawberries, graham crackers, and for the die-hard chocoholics, tiny brownie squares. 🙂
Just found your blog and am LOVING it! Keep up the great work! 🙂

My favorite chocolate is so easy to make! Combine 1 stick of butter, I package of chocolate chips (milk or semisweet), and 1 small can of sweetened condensed milk. Melt it all together and enjoy!
This does not work in fondue fountains, however. The chocolate is much too thick! I like to do it in a crock pot or something similar. We love to dip cinnamon bears and pretzels. Yum!

We have the cookbook from the melting pot and there are tons of amazing recipes in it. We really like the espresso chocolate fondue and turtle too.

We have been doing this for years. My kids are now college age and already asking for certain items for dipping. This year we are doing Melting Pot style at home and having three courses. A cheese fondue, a meat fondue and of course a chocolate fondue. For the last few years we have used the chocolate fountain for the dessert and it adds to the fun:-)

I have the BEST recipe for chocolate fondue…You will love it! I got it from a french cookbook my mom had.
2 TBSP honey, 1/2 cup half n half, 1 9oz bar chocolate (I use symphony bars), 1 tsp vanilla
heat honey and half n half in a saucepan, reduce heat, add chocolate pieces. Heat until melted, stirring constantly. Add vanilla. Then put in fondue pot and eat away
We like all the normal stuff…but bananas is my favorite…rice krispy treats and oranges are amazing as well. The citris acid and the chocolateis yummy!

This works inn my pot and in my fountain! The actual cookbook is International Sampler cookbook copyright 1988, Great American Oppertunities.
I have a reeally yummy smoky cheese fondue as well (and there is no alcohol), if wanted. I also make the fonduee recipe on the back of the Knorr Parma Rosa Packet! It is TO DIE FOR!
