As my kids get a little older, the homework keeps piling up. Man, schools are getting more intense! Anyone else feel like this? I swear, all I remember studying when I was their age was my spelling words! Now that things are getting a tad bit demanding for them, I wanted to create a small work space for them to get down to business and of course, Walmart came to the rescue! Such a fun, glamorous space that will grow with them for years! I think you’ll love it!
I have to first tell you, I’ve been so impressed with Walmart’s home section lately.
Why Walmart?
They’re bringing SO many on trend home styles into the mix. Did you know you could shop by STYLE on their site? Farmhouse your thing? They’ve got you covered here. Want a more glam look? Oh, check it out here. They really have SO much now. Plus, they also have two day shipping so things get to you FAST! I also love their ship to store option. Free, and I can pick up on my regular Walmart run. That’s a win win!
What I Bought For This Glam Look
I knew I wanted a glam feel, but I didn’t want it to be too busy, either. To kick things off, I first snagged this desk. I loved the white color and the simplicity of the design. I knew my girls, if given a million different drawers and cubbies, would end up just shoving junk into every crevice. This desk has one drawer – perfect for the basics. I loved the X shaped legs. Isn’t that unique? I also really liked this desk, which is a similar style. I loved the gold handles, but the legs are a bit less unique. Which you do prefer?
This “ghost” chair was a no brainer. I loved how the design is subtle. You almost don’t notice the chair, but when you do, it’s such eye candy!
And, can we just talk about how much more chic this chair looks in comparison to a big, bulky desk chair? It’s a great height for my girls too.
Organizing the Desk Space
A work space is never complete without some organizational tools. There are so many different options! Again, I like to keep it simple. My girls don’t have a TON of papers to organize, so I went with a gold accent perforated paper organizer. This has been great to keep homework, notes home and more without being overbearing. I also found this matching waste basket that is next on my list to purchase! Isn’t that gold a fun pop of color?
I also found these for inside the drawers and let’s be honest, these are the ONLY hope for organization that little drawer has!
Adding a little symmetry
Due to the fact I have two girls (Yes, they’re twins!), and only one desk, I wanted to add some symmetry to the look. I added huge floor black mirrors like these, and I love how it makes the space really pop. The large size is awesome because they can both sit on the floor and do their hair (and soon enough, their makeup!) in the mirrors. The contrasting black and white speaks to my soul!
Are you a black and white fan?
Let’s talk about accessories.
I’m a minimalist when it comes to accessories in styling because I’m just not a fan of “busy”. I found an old lamp and spray painted in black to fit my color scheme. It’s a bold statement! You can find lots similar to it here.
Then, I wanted something feminine to contrast with the dark lamp. These faux peonies are dainty and look so pretty and light with the sunshine streaming in on them. Plus, I don’t have to keep them alive….which is a huge deal for this NON green thumb gal!
How do you feel about faux plants/flowers? Love them or do they remind you of the greenery your Aunt Bernice use to have ALL over her purple wall papered house!? (Children of the 80’s, you know what I’m talking about….)
So what do you think? Isn’t this a fun, budget friendly space for my girls? I have to be honest, I want to recreate it in MY room! It’s such a chic, feminine work space and my girls are LOVING it.
Can you believe I got almost all of it at Walmart? I love how many options they have for every room and budget PLUS how easy it is to ship to my house in no time!
My girls are loving it and I can’t wait to see them grow up in this space!

I have found that most of your links to items you want to show never ever go to the item! They go to whatever store is sponsoring your story’s website homepage which is very very frustrating! I would have liked to see the gold matching garbage can but instead get Walmart’s homepage with a picture of tomato’s?!?! I have had this happen to many times to count so most times now I don’t even bother to click the link… I think you will get a lot more money from sales if the links worked as they should! Very frustrating for sure!!

Great article and great finds! I really like how you mixed items from WalMart, to create this beautiful bedroom. You make it look possible for anyone, on any budget. Well done!
Just wondering where you got the poster “you’re never fully dressed without a smile”. Such a great touch to the room! Did you purchase it, or did you make it yourself?
Thanks!
Have a wonderful day!
Cristina:)

Love what you did with the workspace! And wise choice on the simple yet glam desk. My girls would also find a way to cram anything into any drawer just to call it their own! I love the framed quote as well! From one of my favorite musicals:)
