Still hunting for that perfect Fathers Day gift, Ladies? Well here’s another idea to add to the list. This one is super basic and something the kiddos can help with! We all know how much Daddy appreciates gifts from the heart made with lots of love! I know my little boy loves making things for his daddy. There is nothing better than watching his face as daddy opens his handmade gifts.
We’re gonna make the man of the house the best body pillow he’s ever had. My husband got one of these special pillows as a gift from me for his 18th birthday. Now years later, it is tattered and torn and in desperate need of a replacement. He has been begging me for months to make him a new one, so I’m going to share the secret to the “best gift he’s ever received” 😉
Here’s the supplies you need:
Body Pillow
1 2/3 – 2 yards of minky fabric
Thread
Sewing Supplies
Now gather up your little (or big) helpers. Trust me they are going to be enthusiastic 😉
Make sure you wash and dry your fabric before you start, this will help for all the future times that this pillow case will need to be washed. Next figure out how long the body pillow is, the dimensions should be on the package or tag, if not use a measuring tape! You are going to want to cut your fabric 10 inches longer than the body pillow. Fold your fabric in half and cut it the same width as your pillow and 10 inches longer than the length. My pillow was 52″ x 20″, so with the fabric folded over I cut it to be 62″ x 20″(the open piece of fabric was 62″ x 40″).
Have the kids help with cutting!
You can see the fold here. Pin the long side and one of the short sides together. You are going to stitch a big L down the length and one side to create your pillowcase.
Sew around the two pinned sides with a 5/8″ seam allowance.
You are almost done! I know.. that was speedy, huh? Next step you’re going to slide the pillow case over the body pillow while it is still inside out. This is where you are going to decide how long to make the cover. I folded back about 4 inches of fabric to create the perfect length. You may want more or less fabric at the opening of the case.
Measure around the opening and pin the fabric at the same length all the way around. Start by matching the seam line, then work your way around the rest of the opening.
Start sewing where the 2 seams match up, make sure you keep the seam allowance open on both sides. Stitch at 1/4″ all the way around!
Flip the pillow case right side out and push out the corners. VIOLA! You’re done! I know.. the kids probably could have done that whole thing on their own.
Slip the cover on your pillow and tie it all up with a cute hand made note and some string!
Ok, you may have just given yourself a little competition for cuddling in bed ;)……. but Daddy is going to love his super soft cuddly present!
Don’t forget to make one for yourself! These are perfect, especially when you are pregnant!
