Sometimes you plan a 10th birthday party for your daughter. Sometimes you make it a craft-themed party and let the kids do all the work…because that’s what is best, both for the children and for your stress level. I’d be hard-pressed to find a tween-aged gal who didn’t love a good craft. That’s why this party worked perfectly for my daughter and her friends-plus it made me look pretty cool.
Step Number One: The Invites
I wanted to keep it simple and inexpensive (again, for the sake of the children) but still totally adorbs. I took some polka-dot paper and attached it to a foam paint brush with a sweet little ribbon (foam paint brushes cost next to nothing-I think you can pay for them with sticks). The girls would be using the brushes at the party so I thought it would be a fun way to get them excited. See? Simple. Cheap. Awesome.
Step Number Two: The Party – Headbands
What does one craft at a craft party? I’ll tell you. This idea was super-easy: headbands that require only small wooden circles, Modge Podge, cute paper, the aforementioned paint brush, and a needle/thread combo. Just cut paper, podge onto the wooden circle, sew on any extras and attach to elastic. BAM.
Step Number Two: The Party – The Gowns
As for the gowns, we didn’t want to be too serious about the whole thing, so I let them craft each others gowns out of toilet paper. We had some regular Elie Saabs up in here, I’m telling you – very avant garde.
Naturally it turned out to be quite the fashion show. I’m accepting orders for custom gowns now-have your credit cards ready.
I mean look at these happy girls! Success!
Step Number Three: The Treats. The Sweets. Mmmm.
Everything about an ice cream bar is sugary and wonderful. It doesn’t hurt that it looks fabulous either-look at those glasses! So fancy and perfect for little girls. All we needed was some ice cream, delish fruit, and whipped cream. From there, I let the girls craft their own sundaes (you can craft a sundae, right?).
All in the name of crafts. I’d say that’s a sweet ending, wouldn’t you?

This is great! My mom always used to have us do crafts for our birthday parties. I always remember how much fun they were and everyone gets to take something home.

My daughter always enjoyed helping plan her party and doing any type of craft project. We made several different items, depending on the party theme — tie-dyed t-shirts for a bowling party (bowling shirts), made Paddington the Bear hats & “return to” tags for another party! Kids like to be involved, if only to assist with invitations, stuffing goodie bags and laying out party favors!
