Awwww… my favorite!
Layering season is in full bloom!
And if one article of clothing is underestimated and under-appreciated in my opinion,
it’s SOCKS!
I always hear how versatile scarfs are (which they are 100%!!), and how they can change an outfit depending on how you wear them. Plus there are endless styles of scarfs available. Socks are an underdog in that same category, but I’m here to help unleash the beast of sock-awesomeness.
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head…
Okay, maybe not, but a style for every outfit for sure!
Here are just a few of my favorite ways to rock the sock!
Alright ladies.. who remembers their mom’s putting them in ruffle socks folded down with each and every dress you wore as a child?!
Genius!
I love the antique/sweet/innocent look it brings to an outfit.
Another favorite is probably the most common way to rock the sock, and is PERFECT for keeping you nice and toasty on those cold winter days/nights while adding style instead of frump to layering.
The knee high socks over tights with tall boots.
Sometimes that little black dress is screaming your name, even in the dead of winter.. so this is a great way to keep you warm while still feeling like a red hot chilli peppa for that hot date.
Super similar, but a lot more casual, is the knee high socks over leggings or skinny jeans. This is my go-to in the winter. I love the look, and I love how toasty it keeps me. I’m just wearing cream with black polka dot knee high socks in the pictures below, but I love knee highs that are colored to add a little peek of funk to outfits that are usually all covered up with a winter coat.
And maybe my favorite way…
…an exaggerated cuffed skinny jean (or boyfriend cut jean) to show a sneak peek of those socks that are screaming for some attention.
Why do they make such cute socks in every color, style, pattern, etc if they aren’t meant to be shown off, right?!
I have written an article in the past about “statement pieces” within your outfit. Socks are a perfect example of this. They are a subtle, yet brilliant way to show some personality with your style, and they make a great statement piece. PLUS, it doesn’t get more adorable, easier, or cheaper than SOCKS!! Triple whammy!
(WARNING: Do not try this bad attempt at a barney jump at home. You may or may not bruise your heel on the way down and won’t be able to walk for several days. Just a warning from this lady who thinks she’s 18, and is clearly closer to twice that age.)
Rock the sock!
Bring those beauties out of hiding and showcase them with the attention they deserve!

Soo adorable. I love that you come up with all this stuff. I want your striped socks and lace up boots. Where from?
kate says
You’re the sweetest!! My striped socks are GAP (favorite place for generic socks.. great price, great quality.. get selection!) And my lace up boots are Steve Madden from Nordstrom a couple of years ago :).

Thank you for validating my love for socks this season! P.S. Target has an AMAZING variety!

Couldn’t agree more! Target is ideal for fabulous socks!! Thank you for that!!

I take this love for socks a bit further… I always wear mismatched socks!
I was sitting down folding laundry for 5 people, and realised how much time I was wasting by making pairs for everyone. Now, I just make each their own pile. In the morning, you grab 2 socks, and TA-DA! Fashion statement! (and sooooo much more free time!)

Hey I love the socks a lot, but, I’d love to know WHERE you got those last pair boots with the loooong tie up laces!
kate says
Thank you! They are Steve Madden boots, I got them from Nordstrom a couple of years ago, but I know a lot of other department stores sold them as well. Maybe ebay has a pair just waiting for you 😉

I love this article. I have been wearing socks like this for so long. I am famous for my “crazy socks” as people who know me say. Thanks for the sock fashion tips. My favorite is knee high pattern socks, flats with a jeans skirt.
