I’m sure I’m not alone – you can never have enough Halloween decorations right? I have this massive Halloween town – it takes up an entire wall and I love it so.
But my wheels started turning and I decided to make a miniature version of a chalkboard Halloween town I could use on my mantle.
I created a template from my large Halloween Town and you can download it here. Save the PDF to your desktop and open it in Acrobat reader. When you print it you can select the pages to be tiled – or you can take the document to staples and have it printed.
Trace the template to wood, foam core board, cardboard or whatever you prefer, I chose MDF. And then cut out the pattern.
For endless creative options, use chalkboard paint to paint the houses. (I also think it might be fun to cover them in black glitter!)
Once dry, attach the houses together using small hinges, two connecting each house. (Tip: space the houses as far apart as possible for your hinge so you can fold them in and out without issues.)
Decorate them to your liking.
There are so many fun ways to use this idea:
- Make one set, or make 5
- You can create an amazing tablescape with a couple sets
- Display this on your front porch
- Cut out some windows and place a candle behind for some spooky light
You don’t have long before Halloween – its time to get started! And then of course send me pictures of your awesome creations!

So so darling Kara! I love the idea for the mantle but I REALLY want the huge halloween wall! Did you make that too?!!!

I know, the large Halloween town is my favorite. These particular ones are made of black foam core board so their easy to store in the attic – but I want to make wood ones as well and stake them in the lawn. Just use the same template and add the roof to the side pieces on the one side. And if you want to make a table, come to Arizona and we’ll build one and you can strap it to the top of your car and take it home!!

PS. ANd I want your dining table. Cutest chair, bench combo you’ve got going on there!!! Darling.

Very cute! You could also modify it to make a Christmas Victorian Village by drawing different details on the buildings.. I like projects, like this, that can be used for more than one purpose.

A Christmas village would be darling!

I love love love your painted pumpkins on the table runner as the centerpiece! Do you have a tutorial on this? I would love to do something similar and it would be awesome if you had a pumpkin painting tutorial and where you got your runner/paint etc. Thanks!

There’s only one painted pumpkin the rest are mercury glass. Painting pumpkins is easy peasy – buy a fake pumpkin, use spray paint to cover the surface and then use acrylic paint to paint a design. The fabric for the runner was purchased at Joann’s. It’s burlap with gold painted dots, they also have a silver dot version which is lovely for Christmas.

I love this idea!! So cute! What is the machine you are using to cut out the wood? Good idea using the hinges.
