We are thrilled to welcome back Inger, from Uppercase Living, who is here to show us how to create gorgeous holiday projects using vinyl and oil based markers!
Hello HDS readers! I’m excited to be a contributor on this popular blog again!
This last spring, I was introduced to the wonderful world of oil-based markers and decided to try vinyl lettering and the markers together. The results were incredible and the possibilities are limitless! Can I just say it’s 100 times easier than scraping off the sticky residue left behind from using stickers!!!
Today I want to share my favorite projects using oil-based markers and Uppercase Living’s vinyl Ruffle Flower and Poinsettia Flower packs.
As you’ll see below, there are endless ways to create unique home décor and homemade holiday gifts for friends, teachers, and family! Check out this 1-minute video and see how easy and fun this project is!
Step 1 — Put your vinyl on a nonporous surface like glass, ceramic, or metal.
Step 2 — Remove the tape and let the fun begin! Outline, color in, stripe, polka-dot, etc. In other words, just get creative because anything goes! My favorite oil-based markers are Sharpies.
Step 3 — Let the paint dry for about 10 minutes, then peel the vinyl off.
Step 4 — Time to doodle! This step is optional but sure adds a finishing touch to projects done on ceramic plates!
I also love using words! Here’s an idea on glass that uses one of our many expressions. If you want to make something customized, you can also purchase custom lettering and use the exact same steps.
Look at all the fun ways to use Uppercase Living vinyl lettering and oil-based markers!! With all these ideas, it’s time to plan a project party with your friends!
Have fun creating!

Are these projects washable after they are dry? Are they food safe? I think they are adorable and creative ideas!
