I made the switch last year away from chemical (bad ones) sunscreens but it left me with very few options to choose from… so we were sporting the white skin look all summer with our zinc oxide sunscreen. Luckily, some companies are now wising up and have some great products out that are mineral based and non-whitening! These all scored low hazard on EWG.org.
#1 Favorite…Honest Company
I LOVE this stuff…all three of them. The face stick ($9.95) is awesome for sticking to your face…especially for the easily burned parts…(nose, ears, etc.). The tube ($13.95) is easily rubbed in and feels smooth going on. The spray ($13.95) (rated a little higher on the scale, but still pretty low) is the ultimate convenience and gives good coverage….especially when you have 5 kids to sunscreen!
Honest.com has some sweet deals if you want to try these…

#2 Kiss My Face
We found the best price ($10.69), here. And if you haven’t shopped at Vitacost before – you can get it almost FREE. You get a $10.00 credit with your first purchase – we are addicted to this site. :)…you’ll see why.
You can also get it on Amazon for ($13.19)
Be sure to get the one that says blends in clear on the bottle.
#3 California Baby
This one is a little harder to rub in but works great. It says it is for baby, but it works for everyone – it is especially good for fair skin or sensitive skin. Best price found on Vitacost (17.99). Use your $10.00 credit to get if for $7.99. Amazon price (22.29)
Below are some highly recommended low-chemical based sunscreens from our facebook crowd. (I can’t guarantee if these ones will cake on white or not.) 😉
You can get them all for a great price, here. Don’t forget to use your $10.00 coupon!

We use the thinksport brand (black & yellow bottle pictured above that says Livestrong) and we love it. It is one of the safest and is easily rubbed in and not as thick as California baby or Badger. We used to use Badger and I loved how safe it was and how well it protected but it was so hard to rub in and left you a little white looking.

I’m surprised that the honest company is #1 fav. I bought some tube and spray. My kids look like ghosts. My fav is homemade basically carrot seed oil,and coconut oil. Just got back from 10days at Powell and didn’t get burnt!
